As we head into the busy season of holiday tournaments next week. We were treated to a border war shootout in nearby East Chicago with the first Annual Reggie Martin Basketball Classic. Here are the players that stood out on Saturday!

Top Performers

[player_tooltip player_id='1750599' first='Je'Shawn' last='Stevenson'] Lindblom 2024

Stevenson has been on a scoring tear the past weeks and yesterday was no different. Je'shawn was a matchup problem against smaller defenders so naturally, he got to the rim with force as often as possible. Stevenson scored about 75% of his buckets around the rim as there wasn't much De Sales had that could do to stay in front of him. Je'shawn scored 33 points and swiped a handful of steals as well. His performance was another statement for Player of the Year consideration.

[player_tooltip player_id='2323675' first='Michael' last='Woods'] St. Francis De Sales 2027

Woods was a player I mentioned in my preseason articles of players to know and well his performance on Saturday was his introduction to the state. Michael looked really good scoring from three levels on the court. He made some threes from different spots and also got in the lane for some fluid jump shots. Most of his scoring was in the flow of the game and he never looked to force any bad shots. Michael had a crisp handle and didn't seem rattled by the intense Lindblom press. He moved the ball well as a passer. What I felt is an underrated aspect of his game that should be talked about was his change of speed and ability to crash the offensive boards. Woods had several rebound putbacks, some in traffic. Micheal led his team in scoring with 28 points in the loss, but It's not too late to add his name to the elite prospects of this ever-growing 2027 class.

Jayden Williams Rich Township 2026

Williams is another under-the-radar talent who had a big game. Jayden started the game hitting several shots from beyond the arc and that set the tone of what would eventually become a blowout. Williams is a 6'4 sophomore who has good length and was able to attack off the dribble as well as make shots consistently on the perimeter. He finished with 4 threes on the day and led the Raptors with 20 points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id='1552475' first='Marquis' last='Clark'] Whitney Young 2026

Clark got the start at PG for the Dolphins and he played well in the lead guard position. Marquis is a smooth savvy guard who gets to rim in various ways. He used his size over the slightly smaller defenders to score when the Dolphins needed a lift. Clark did a good job at dishing out assists and helping out on the boards. His stat line was 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

[player_tooltip player_id='1284852' first='Chris' last='Riddle'] (Kenwood) 2024

Riddle had been playing well as the primary scorer for the Broncos. The difference between last season and this year has been his patience on the court. Chris has the physical attributes to score around the rim but used his shooting to open up lanes later in the game. The mid-range and corner threes have been his money-makers this season. When he sees one on one coverage he attacks off the dribble. He finished with a game-high 33 points in the win. Riddle has a chance to contribute right away next year in the Big East as he learns more to let the game come to him.

Intriguing Prospects

Davione Doty (St. Francis De Sales) 2024 6'8

The mobile big man showed some flashes of athleticism and good timing that could translate to the college floor next year. He blocked several shots and made some skilled moves to get to the rim. He must work on finishing better around the basket but his moves while attacking looked good.

[player_tooltip player_id='2104984' first='Samar' last='Bures'] (Rich Township) 2024 5'10

Bures is an intense and very explosive athlete. He guards the ball just as well as any guard in the state. He had several steals and finished most of them with momentum-changing dunks. Samar also knocked several shots down from three and is very unselfish in the open court. Colleges should be offering him now before it is too late!

[player_tooltip player_id='1750598' first='Cole' last='Pruitt'] (Whitney Young) 2024 6'4

Pruitt had a productive day from the three-point line. With the Dolphins down early in the second half Cole made three to give his team a slight lead. In the middle of the third quarter as his confidence grew he would later get to the rim off a straight line drive where he would score and get fouled. Pruitt's run fueled Young's comeback victory.
