Prime Passers: JC Tharrington, Kenny Dye & Isaac Parson
Having ball-handlers on your team that do an excellent job of finding open men is a luxury. Below are a few players that are proving their worth as prime passers.
In most east coast recruiting circles, JC Tharrington is becoming a well recognized name. He’s a pure point guard that flat out gets the job done when it comes to running an offense. Most of his passes are pin-point target passes that land in his teammates sweet spots. He does a great job of splitting traps with passes and keeping defenders off balance with occasional fakes. In addition to his passing ability, he’s a lights out shooter from all over the court. Tharrington won’t wow you with speed, but his consistent ability to control the pace and find the open man will win you a ton of basketball games.
Perhaps the most underrated point guard in the eastern part of North Carolina, Kenny Dye is one of the purest point guard prospects available in the senior class. He has a career record of 77-5 as the starting point guard at Jacksonville Northside HS, including an undefeated state title run this past year. He’s one of the best guards when it comes to controlling the flow of a game and keeping turnovers to an absolute minimum. Very deceptive athlete that also shows the ability to score the ball at a high level should his team need him to do so. It’s easy to envision him being a starting point guard sooner than later at the D1 or D2 level once he graduates.
One of the fresher faces to this list, Isaac Parson is no slouch when it comes to dishing the ball. He participated on the junior varsity in his freshman season and showed flashes. However, his summer campaign in team camps with his high school varsity showed that his ability to find people will indeed translate. He maximizes his ability to create space off the dribble by using look-away passes and pass fakes. At his best when he attacks closeouts and drops off easy dimes to his big men on the inside. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him among assists leaders in the next few seasons.
