Weekend Standouts

One of those is [player_tooltip player_id='1565197' first='Deston' last='Christian']. He had a terrific game against Canyon International Academy on Friday at The Bash, finishing with 18 points and 7 rebounds - 5 of those being on the offensive glass - in Legacy's 84-74 victory. Deston has a strong frame but is more than capable of taking his defender off the dribble, which resulted in most of his success scoring the ball. He knocked down six threes in Legacy's victory over Canyon International on Friday evening. Most of his success was as a spot-up shooter, but he also knocked down a couple off the dribble. His only non-three of the night was a mid-range jump shot that he knocked down after attacking a closeout. Travelle is also a good athlete, solid defender, and can help out on the defensive glass. Pretty, who might have been the biggest winner in terms of stock this week, put the state on notice with his play. He had 21 points and 9 rebounds on 9-12 shooting from the field and 2-3 shooting from behind the arc against EYBL Scholastic Sunrise Christian. Despite being outsized by many of the defenders assigned to him, none of them outworked Jayden. He frequently scored off the dribble while finishing around multiple bodies, but he also consistently knocked down the perimeter shot to add spacing to the Blazer offense. He scored all 19 of his points in the second half of Ridge View's win over Sunrise Christian, standing out against future Division One players. Corbett took over for several different periods down the stretch, and the defense had no answer for his constant slashing and shot creation. Korie is a very strong driver who is capable of finishing around taller defenders or pulling up in the mid-range. It was just a minor injury and Christian returned shortly after, but this was still my first chance to see him in a Cavalier uniform this season. He did not disappoint. Andrews is one of the top scoring guards in the state and he did just that in Dorman's victory over Riverside at the Coaches Classic. He finished with a game-high 19 points, but also added 6 rebounds and 2 assists. Christian excelled with the ball in his hands in transition, showing lots of creativity with his finishes around the rim. He is an excellent shooter who is also capable of making plays for himself and others off the dribble. Terry has a great connection with Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id='1419742' first='DJ' last='Martin'] and the two always seem to be on the same page offensively. On the defensive end, Cunningham has good athleticism and moves his feet very well on the perimeter.
