Spencer Free is 6’3 guard from Harrison County High School in Cynthiana, KY. Last season, Free helped the Thoroughbreds win the 38th District championship while averaging 12.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. Free shot over 42% from the field (42.2% from 3-point range). “Last high school season was good. I did a lot of things for our team, like being a leader, stepping up when needed. We won our district tournament – but this upcoming year we have much higher expectations,” said Spencer.
Free is a guard who can score from all areas on the floor. “I like the 3-ball, but I also like driving to the rim and getting to the free throw line. You’ll never want to leave me open.” This summer Spencer worked on his ball handling and foot speed. “I’ve been working on shooting off the dribble the most.”
This summer Free also participated in AAU ball with Team (CKY) Vision in the Adidas (Silver) Gauntlet. “AAU was legit this year. I got to lead my team to being one of the best teams in the state and picked up new interest from schools. It was a great summer.”
In the classroom, Spencer finished his sophomore with a 3.1 GPA. In looking for a school at the next level, Free had this to say – “In college I want to go to a school that best fits me. I want to feel like I’m at a second home with a new family. I want to get far from home also and pave my own path.”
Currently holding no offers, Free says he has heard from the University of Illinois of Chicago, Georgetown College, and Greenville University.
As stated earlier, Free has high expectations going into his junior season. “This season we have a lot of returning kids, we should be a top 5 team in the 10th region – and we have two top players in the 10th Region also. I hope teams sleep on us, because we will have a wake up call for them.”
