With the grassroots season behind us and elite camps taking place in what seemingly feels like every weekend of August, we've been using this time to dish out some way-too-early high school preview content. I'll feature some of the 2026 guards who are primed to have "super sophomore" seasons in 2023-24.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782655' first='Prince' last='Moody'] | Bishop McNamara

Moody is our top overall prospect in the 2026 rankings, so it's only fitting that he makes this list. Not only did he show his fair share of flashes as a freshman for a pesky McNamara group, he used the spring and summer stage to prove himself as a skilled scoring guard that is prepared to take on a much bigger role. With Martin Somerville transferring to Southern California Academy, it means even more productivity will be expected out of Moody. Just like this summer with [program_tooltip program_id='2077004' first='Team' last='Takeover'], I'm confident that he will answer the call and become a premiere prospect in the loaded WCAC.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782659' first='Parker' last='Robinson'] | Good Counsel

One of the two skilled sophomore guards that head coach GJ Kissal has on his hands is Robinson. A 6-foot-3 guard with a slender frame, Robinson is a crafty scorer and a legitimate threat from all three levels. He finishes around the rim with either hand in a variety of ways, has the confidence and body control to pull-up on a dime in the mid-range and can convert the deep ball with efficiency. He plays with that confidence mentioned earlier on both ends of the floor and can be disruptive in passing lanes as well as a presence on the glass.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782661' first='Malik' last='Shackleford'] | Friendship Tech

Shackleford wasted no time in making an impact on winning as a freshman in 2022-23. He brings sound positional size and plus length that allow him to contribute in multiple ways. Shackleford is a balanced guard when it comes to scoring and playmaking. He has ability to play on and off the ball and with an impressive freshman campaign under his belt, we expect a big season from Shackleford this winter.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782590' first='Lawrence' last='Brown'] | St. Andrew's

Brown is the type of point guard that any roster could make use of. Both last season and this season coming up, Brown will be surrounded with guys who can score in different ways. It's his responsibility to put those players in the best positions to showcase their strengths and he can do this in a mature fashion. Brown can also take on more of a scoring mentality if needed and is particularly effective at getting into the lane and drawing contact on his way to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1782657' first='Neiko' last='Mundey'] | Good Counsel

Mundey brings an electricity as a playmaker that makes the game exciting every time he receives the ball. He's shifty and explosive all while being able to dissect reads as if the game is moving at a slower pace. Over the spring and summer with New World, Mundey improved his vision and point guard skills, but he hangs his hat on putting the ball in the basket from multiple levels. Mundey thrives in isolation or ball screen scenarios as well as being a handful when he gets a head of steam in the open floor using his end-to-end speed.

With the grassroots season behind us and elite camps taking place in what seemingly feels like every weekend of August, we've been using this time to dish out some way-too-early high school preview content. I'll feature some of the 2026 guards who are primed to have "super sophomore" seasons in 2023-24.
