There were teams represented from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and possibly others. Out of 27 teams in 15U, these are the five players that made the 2nd team for the all-tournament team. I will work up from third team all the way through the first team. Lets see who players 6-10 were!
Malachi Summons
Malachi Summons
Malachi Summons utilized a broad frame and good size to make a massive impact on the court. He played great interior defense and solid perimeter defense, which led to him having the opportunity to grab one rebound after another. He scored over and over again in the paint, driving to the basket with force and turning offensive rebounds into second chance points. He came away with a few assists, a steal, and a block in the game, as well. He helped set the tone early and was able to have a big game.
Jayden Slaughter
Jayden Slaughter
Jayden Slaughter made an impact on both ends of the court, which his contributions helped his team win. He grabbed a few rebounds, using solid athleticism and decent size to get them. On one possession, he grabbed an offensive rebound and found the open man. His teammate missed the shot, but he showed the willingness to look for teammates, instead of forcing up a shot. He had a couple of assists in the game. He constantly ran in transition, having one emphatic dunk after another. He missed a couple of dunks, but made majority of them. They were dunks that had power behind them and could provide a momentum swing if they took place in a close game. He showed the ability to finish inside, doing it a couple of times throughout the game. The last area of impact that he had was on defense, where he played solid interior and perimeter defense. He came away with a block in the game, as well. It was a good game for him, as he helped his team win.
Mason Delaney put on a show and is a player that I considered for first team. If his team would have made it a little farther, he would have probably made it on there. He put on a rebounding clinic, grabbing a rebound every time that it came off of the rim. On multiple occasions, he turned offensive rebounds into putbacks. He was a scoring machine on the interior, utilizing great size to shoot over the smaller defenders. He also showed the ability to stretch the floor, knocking down a three pointer. On defense, he had good hands to knock the ball away from the defender on a few different occasions. He had a knack to step over and help at the right time, coming away with one block after another. I recorded four blocks in the game for him. There was one sequence that he had help defense that lead to a block, him grabbing the rebound, and then him scoring in transition. It was a great performance for him, as he exerted his will on both ends of the court.
Joshua Weems
Joshua Weems
Joshua Weems was essential in his team winning the championship. He showed the ability to score inside and knock down some shots from the outside. He ran in transition and would finish, as well as showing the ability to set up teammates. His biggest impacts were on the defensive end, where he played great on-ball defense and perimeter defense. This led to him forcing turnovers and coming away with steals. There was one play that he had a steal and found a teammate cutting to the basket for an assist. He also grabbed a few rebounds, as well. His impact was felt in almost every area of the game, as his team won the championship by 10 points.
Rylen Sykes
Rylen Sykes
Rylen Sykes was one of the most entertaining players that I watched. He hit one pull-up jumper or pull-up three after another. He has a nice jumper with a smooth release. No matter how tight the defense played him, it did not phase him raising up and knocking it down. It was raining from both mid-range and three-point range. On multiple occasions, he would run hard towards the mid-range area, catch the ball, and hit a turnaround jumper. He had good court vision and passing ability, as he would deliver a beautiful pass to his teammates for an assist, no matter if they were cutting or if he was driving the gap and kicking to the corner. On multiple occasions, he came away with a steal that led to him hitting a dribble pull-up on the other end or coming away with an assist. There were a few times that he had a rebound that led to an assist or easy basket. He played great defense the whole game. Even when his team was up big, he did not let up. He was still hustling for loose balls and fighting for rebounds. It was an impressive and dominant performance for him.
