has a really high chance of being the Gatorade Player of the Year. He has been dominant all year, posting multiple 20-plus-point games and filling up every column on the stat sheet. He’s a savvy, aggressive point guard who gets to his spots on the floor. He can facilitate, defend 94 feet, and explode off the ground. Everything you want in a player, Wilks has.
He won a big matchup over another Gatorade Player of the Year candidate, and he did it in impressive fashion. In mid-January, he and the Millwood Falcons made the drive to Tulsa to take on the Booker T. Washington Hornets. This game was the most anticipated matchup of the season, as two of the best guards in the state were set to go head-to-head. The highly anticipated showdown between Wilks and Joc Mitchell lived up to the hype, and Wilks came out on top, pouring in 21 points and leading all scorers in a 15-point victory over the defending 5A state champions.
Wilks has proven to be a vocal leader for the Falcons and has played a huge role in their successful season, as they sit at 21–2 heading into the playoffs. If Wilks can win back-to-back state championships this year, it could propel him to Gatorade Player of the Year.
