For elite teams like Millwood, every piece matters. And in this case Clay is the difference maker as a shooter. He provides crucial gravity and of course scoring when teams help of to try to protect the paint. He’s at his best in the corners. But has been improving more as an above the break shooter and all around the court. Brings a bit of fight on the defensive end too, with steals and willing to take charges. The Redlands Community College commit is sure to provide that extra boost if Millwood is to go back to back.

The senior fits his role to a T for the Falcons. As is required to touch the floor for Millwood, he gets after it on the defensive end. Have even seen him rise up and block shots in transition. Definitely has some grit to his game. His defense helps, but his biggest contribution comes via being the best shooter on the roster. Clay is money in the corners, providing valuable points and spacing to allow his athletic teammates to attack the basket.

The box score said the skilled Millwood guard only had 11 points but every one of them felt much more impactful. Every time Booker T threaten to pull away and control the game, it seemed like it was Clay in particular who would respond with a big three. Friday night was clear evidence that he’s thriving in his role as a floor spacer and timely scorer for one of the very best teams in Oklahoma.

Millwood is blessed with a deep backcourt and it’s impressive that Clay is carving out his niche with additional scoring punch. Younger players with stronger frames like Clay are often layup and transition based, which sets him apart is he’s doing his damage in the halfcourt. In a recent game against Dale, he showed off the full breath of his abilities. A good no look dime on a drive, euro steps at the rim and hitting threes off the dribble or spot up. He’s another quality guard with a great, well rounded offensive base.
