Player Profile: Juwan White (2018)
There are certain players who you watch and you can see the potential oozing out of them. 2018 guard Juwan White is one of those players in this class.
White is a big part of what the talent-rich Oklahoma Power Elite are doing. The Power have been impressive in their two local showings this summer and White is one of the main reasons why. He struggled with chemistry and finding his role in the Prep Hoops Route 66 Kickoff but he has molded into a lethal scoring sixth-man.
White is a 6’2 guard with great athleticism and a compact body to absorb contact. He has a solid enough handle to be extremely effective in one-on-one situations. When he enters the game, he is on attack mode immediately and changes the pace of the game.
White gives the Power a physical wing that they don’t have who can create for himself and others.
At times he can rely too much on isolation and can sometimes stop ball movement but those are things that can be tweaked. The 2018 guard has a solid jumper but usually needs a few layups to get in a rhythm to shoot effectively.
He also needs to improve his ball handling which can get too loose with the ball at times.
After a solid showing on the Adidas circuit, White dominated the Sooner Cager as the Power went 6-1. He owned opposing guards who tried to stay in front. White used a wicked crossover and got to the rim and finished with contact.
The Power are loaded with guards and White’s level of play made it difficult for his coach to take him off the floor.
White is set up to have an impressive summer if he keeps playing with this type of aggression and not overthink the game. White could use this summer for his development into a scorer which will be much of his role at Norman North for his senior year due to the departure of Trae Young.
With improved IQ and ball-handling, White can be as good as he wants to be and will be a prospect on the rise in the 2018 class.
