Recruiting Report: Nate Davis (2018)
Rochester Stoney Creek 6-foot-1 guard Nate Davis recently picked up his first offer, from an area NAIA program, and is hoping the floodgates open for more.
Several other programs — D3, D2 and NAIA — have been in the mix with his recruitment, and he’s got some visits on the horizon.
“I actually picked up my first offer earlier this month from UM-Dearborn, an NAIA school, so that was really cool for me. And I’m talking to a different mix of mostly D3 schools, but then a few at the NAIA and even Division II level,” said Davis.
“Kalamazoo, I’ve been talking to a lot, and I’m scheduling a visit to go down there soon. And then I’ve visited Hope College and Hillsdale College, and have talked to those coaches. Aquinas College recently reached out, and they want me to come down and visit.”
Davis added: “So, I guess my next goal would be for some of the (D2) GLIAC schools to reach out to me.”
Wherever he lands at the next level will be getting a slasher who plays both sides of the ball well.
“I think one of my best traits is that I’m pretty good at driving; I’m pretty good at getting to the hoop and finishing, or dishing out to my teammates for open buckets,” said Davis. “I work really hard on the defensive end and I guard the other team’s best player, and I do a pretty good job of keeping them in front of me.”
As a junior, Davis helped the Cougars win their first district championship in school history, and paced the team averaging 16 points per game.
“This junior season our team as a whole was awesome, we lost a lot of senior scorers, so I had to step up into the starting lineup and become our leading scorer,” said Davis.
Now, his 17U season with TEAM Basketball is underway, a program he’s played with for several years now.
He highlighted some goals and expectations for his final season of grassroots ball.
“It’s an incredible program, we’re a close group of guys who have played together for a couple of years, and because we have great team chemistry I think we can come in and shock some of these sponsored or more big-name teams,” said Davis.
“My goal is to go out there and play as hard as I possibly can, and show that I have a work ethic to play at the next level. And also showcase my skills that I’ve worked really hard to improve, and show that I can help a college program someday.”
