Johnson was impacting the game in a variety of ways last night, as the 6-4 combo guard piled up 18 points and seven rebounds helping lead Gateway Charter to a 65-40 preseason win over Palmetto Ridge. Johnson came to Gateway Charter from Port Charlotte during the off-season.
Highlights
Chin finished with 14 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists for Port Charlotte in their 58-54 preseason win over Sarasota. Expect this season for Chin to play with high energy on both sides of the ball. He makes it difficult for offensive players to get a shot off. The two-way guard also has a high motor and can light it up from beyond the arc, as he shot 57 percent from long range as a freshman last season. Expect Chin and Suber to handle the primary point guard duties leading a young Port Charlotte squad this upcoming season.
Hurst was all over the floor for the East Lake Eagles the other night, finishing with 30 points, four assists and six steals in a 71-34 win over Lecanto. With the departure of Noah Chatman at the end of last season, expect Hurst to play a big role in the offense this season as he can knock down the corner three at a high rate. He can also turn defense into offense real quickly as it showed in the preseason win the other night.
Gamble was a highlight reel the other night, scoring a team-high 24 points and recording three blocks in a 68-58 preseason loss to Victory Rock. Look this upcoming season for Gamble to continue being a slasher and finisher at the front of the rim. The 6-6 combo guard does his best work when he’s finishing put-backs or getting to the basket.
