About Isiah
Expert Analysis

Isiah helped lead Minnesota Spartans into the semi-finals of the 17u bracket. Against Team FSA he had one of the dunks of the weekend as he came flying down the lane for a left handed finish over a pair of defenders. He’s an explosive athlete who can take flight when given a bit of space to elevate. Continues to show improvements as a shooter as well, knocking down some threes as well as a few mid-range pull-ups across the two game I watched.

The Minnesota native is a long, athletic wing who uses his huge wingspan to impact the game on the defensive end, contesting shots on the perimeter and getting into passing lanes. He’s a good enough ball-handler to lead the break after pulling down a defensive rebound, and he showed some ability to create in the halfcourt off the dribble as well. He’s an intriguing young prospect with his athleticism and length.

I think Isiah turned a lot of heads with his play in the first half against Powerhouse Sports. After breaking out at Minneapolis Edison, Isiah spent last winter at Minnesota Prep where he spent time playing across the country. During that time it’s clear there’s been growth in skill and size. He’s now listed at 6’7 with a very long and lanky frame, and has impressive bounce off one foot. He got Real Phenom started off strong, blocking a shot and going coast-to-coast for a lay-up, hitting a three, blocking another shot, and then flying down the lane for an explosive dunk. He’s always been an explosive athlete but looks to have improved his handle and shooting on the perimeter.

Isiah is so fun to watch when he is playing fast and making plays in transition. He had one of the top moments I saw this weekend, catching a transition pass and floating in the air for a huge one-handed slam over a defender. His length and athleticism also allows him to be a high level and versatile defender. He has shown flashes of a perimeter game, having the tools to create looks for himself using the dribble, as I saw him get to his mid-range pull up jumper a couple of times.

Isiah was looking to dunk just about anything at the rim in a big win over Closed Gyms. The explosive wing was sprinting his lane in transition leading to some dunks in the open floor, and just like he did on Friday night, threw down a dunk right over a defender. He caught the ball on the wing, and just exploded to the rim to throw one down over his man. When he doesn’t have the space to fully elevate, Isiah is able to hang in the air to finish acrobatically. Defends multiple spots with his length and provides an additional shot blocking threat with his ability to quickly get off the floor at 6’5.

Isiah was one of the bright spots for Real Phenom in a tough loss to ECI Prospects. Had a crazy sequence where he hustled back on defense, stuffed a dunk attempt with two hands, sprinted back up the floor, and put back a teammate’s miss with a dunk of his own. Towards the end of the game he beat his man off the dribble from the top of the key and threw down a left handed dunk right over the top of him. Athletic slasher with a long and lanky frame at 6’5 who can make plays on both ends of the floor.

Isiah emerged over the winter with Minneapolis Edison, and has had some strong showings this spring as well. Good off-ball movement allows him to catch the ball in dangerous spots as he cuts hard to the rim, but can also pop up to the high post and face up to hit a short/mid-range jumper. Flashed a three point shot as well, and then utilized shot fakes to get his man off guard before blowing by on the baseline. He’s a good athlete at 6’5-6’6 allowing him to beat other players his size up the floor in transition and finish acrobatically at the rim. Defensively he moves his feet well laterally to defend on the wing, and has good effort on the glass to rebound against bigger players. Good shot blocker on the help-side as well.

Isiah was making plays on both ends of the floor in the win for Real Phenom Ivan on Saturday. At 6’6 he has a long and wiry frame that he put to use on the defensive end as he was putting himself in the right spots off the ball to make plays as a shot blocker. In transition he was running the floor hard looking for easy buckets. In the half-court he has a jumper that has to be respected, and he uses that to open up drives as he utilizes a shot fake before blowing by his man on the baseline. Had some tough finishes through contact leading his team to a big win.
