Simply put, Eli is a bucket getter. In the game I saw he was getting to his spots just about any time he wanted to and was knocking down his shots at a high rate. Possessing one of the best mid-range games I saw at the event, if he had the space to elevate in that 10-15 foot range he was likely going to pull-up and put two points on the board. Playing with a very balanced Minnesota Fury team during the spring/summer he doesn’t always get the chance to take over games as an individual so it was nice to see him in a different setting showing another side of his game. Skilled player who can lock up defensively, do the dirty work off the ball, but as shown Saturday can also put points on the board when needed.

Ryan’s full arsenal was on display Saturday as the free-flowing style of play allowed his skillset to shine. At 6’4 he has the handle and vision to run the point at times, and was arguably the best passer I saw at the event. If he caught a rebound he could launch the ball full court to his teammate flying up the floor, but he could also handle the ball the length of the floor and dump it off at the last second for an easy assist. When looking to score he has some wiggle to create space off the dribble but his frame also allows him to bully defenders as he works his way to the basket. Explosive athlete who had a handful of impressive dunks in transition as well. Defensively you won’t find many players who possess the versatility that Ryan does, and he’s also not afraid to repeatedly get on the floor for loose balls.

Another Lakeville South junior who impressed was Carter Wilson Carter Wilson 6’1″ | PG Lakeville South | 2024 MN . He’s a big and physical guard who excels in the paint. He rebounds very well as a guard as he always finds a body to box out and is aggressive attacking the ball off the rim. Not afraid to battle for space on the block when matched up with bigger players, and is able to fight over screens on the perimeter. Offensively he has the handle to beat his man off the dribble, and the strength to keep him pinned on his shoulder as he gets to the basket. When going up to finish he displayed some impressive body control to maintain his balance and finish even when taking some bumps in the air. Will be a part of a talented team at Lakeville South this winter.
Trevor was one of the hardest workers and scrappiest players I saw on the day. One play that defined his game saw him pick up at half-court, get on the floor as he poked the ball free from his man, and when the ball was still loose he got up and once again dove on the floor to hit the ball to his teammate for a lay-up. Those are the type of hustle plays that can help win games and provide a boost of energy for a team. The guard out of Big Lake is incredibly quick on the offensive end where he can fly to the rim with the ball in his hands. He doesn’t need much space, and when the gap is there he doesn’t waste time attacking and extending to finish at the rim. Does a great job of feeding his bigs either with entry passes from the perimeter or by beating his man baseline and dumping it off at the last second.
Corey was extremely productive and it’s because he understands who he is as a player. He knows he’s not going to be a big isolation scorer or launching NBA range threes. Instead, he dominates on the glass and uses his length to his advantage to score in the paint. Corey has the potential to be a consistent double-double producer because of his long wingspan, effort on the glass, and ability to read the ball off the rim to pull in boards in bunches. Offensively he can turn those rebounds into quick put-backs and he also runs the floor very hard in transition. When playing as an undersized forward he can consistently beat his man up and down the floor for transition scores, and Corey has the athleticism to finish above the rim in the open floor.
Jonathan’s first half in the game I watched was nothing short of dominant. He came out attacking the basket early, scoring out of the post, off the drive, in transition, and by using his quick second leap to put-back his teammates’ misses. Mekonnen is extremely explosive, but is also very quick off the floor which allows him to beat his competition to rebounds even after his own misses. His range is also extending to beyond the arc where he’s a catch and shoot threat who helps stretch the floor for his team. Defensively he uses his length well to guard bigger than his size, and consistently ends possessions after one shot with his dominance on the glass.
Andrew was one of the most entertaining players to watch compete. That’s because he possesses such a high skill level both on the block and the perimeter. He’s a bit of a tweener position wise, but has the strength and footwork to go to work on the block while also being able to handle it like a guard. Andrew was a threat from beyond the arc, scored with touch with both hands in the paint, and had some nice passes out of the block. He’s the type of player that can be put in a variety of roles and excel because he’s so rounded. Lakeville North has a very deep roster this season, and Andrew will be one of the up-and-comers to watch out of that program.
