2017 Rankings: Under the Radar
There are a number of players in the 2017 class who are poised to have the opportunity to play at the next level. There are others; however, who are ready to make a big impact that many have looked over. Below are the five players who might be under the radar but are ready to make a big time impact at the next level.
Top Five Under the Radar
#5 Bryce Fowler 6’5 SF Agua Fria (Sacramento State)
Fowler has one of the highest basketball IQs in the entire state. Mix that with solid work ethic, uncoachables, and you get a kid who has an unbelievably high ceiling. Fowler can shoot the basketball at an alarmingly high rate, is capable of taking the defender off of the dribble, and understands what he is able to do. He is an absolute steal for Sacramento State and with work over the summer, he should be ready to make an impact immediately.
#4 Dre Marin 5’10 PG/SG Apollo (SUU)
If you are looking to recruit one of the best shooters and on-ball defenders in the entire state, look no further. With that said, he has locked in at SUU. Marin plays like a coaches son and makes great decisions with the basketball. In addition, he does a number of the intangibles that positively impact a game. He knows how to manage the tempo of the game, can execute at a high level, and is capable of scoring the basketball in an array of ways. Marin is a strong shooter off of the catch and coming off of screens which opens him up to being a combo guard at the next level.
#3 Max Moses 6’0 PG Arcadia
Moses is one of the most college ready, if not the most, players in this class. He manages the tempo really well while adding a smooth mid-range jumper and 3. Moses does a great job of getting by the first defender and either drawing the help side defender and kicking or stopping on a dime prior to reaching the help side and knocking down a mid-range jumper. He is a solid on ball defender and has a college ready physique despite still being a senior in high school. Moses, many of the other players on this list, has an extremely high basketball IQ and will be able to pick up on an offense and execute it quickly. He should sign soon.
#2 Colten Kresl 6’0 PG/SG Chaparral
Under the radar might not accurately describe Kresl; however, he is still unsigned despite being quite talented. Kresl is a talented scorer. He can create shots for himself at an array of spots on the court, and he has improved his ability to create for others. One of his biggest strengths is his competitive fire. It is quite apparent that the kid is highly motivated, puts a lot of time into basketball, and absolutely hates to lose. Kresl, like Moses should not be unsigned for much longer as he can flat out play.
#1 Tre Mitchell 6’1 PG La Joya
It is hard to understand how a kid who has ran the show for a successful 6A program for multiple years can go overlooked. Even more baffling is that he does more than just dictate the flow of the game. Mitchell has a lot of skills that should make him a great fit at the next level. He is a coachable kid with good athleticism. Mitchell is capable of being a pass first guard and a score first guard. He is a solid shooter, but really lives in the paint. He has a good first step and gets to where he wants to get to on the floor. This usually results in layups, mid-range jumpers, or shots for his teammates. He will be playing with Alvin Gentry Elite as an unsigned senior.
