Breakdown of Kentucky 1st Team All-State
Some made their names early, while others put themselves on the map on the ‘Sweet Sixteen’ stage. Prep Hoops Kentucky breaks down the 2017 1st Team All-State list.
KENTUCKY 1st TEAM ALL-STATE
Taveion Hollingsworth, Paul Laurence Dunbar (2017) – The leading vote-getter and Western Kentucky University signee was awarded 2017 Mr. Basketball and helped lead Dunbar to a 2016 state championship. (Averaged 28.3 PPG).
Jake Ohmer, Scott (2017) – Ohmer had committed to the University of Cumberlands early in the 2017 basketball season. But, a last second 3-pt FG to win the 10th Region tournament earned his Scott High School team a berth to the state tournament, and earned Ohmer a scholarship to Western Kentucky University and the right to be considered a Kentucky high school basketball legend. Ohmer’s state tournament performances were mythical, scoring over a 100 points and leading his underdog Scott team to the state semifinal. (Averaged 27.8 PPG).
Terry Taylor, Bowling Green (2017) – Taylor led Bowling Green to it’s state championship victory, scoring 82 points and grabbing 40 rebounds during the ‘Sweet Sixteen’. Taylor is committed to play basketball at Austin Peay. (Averaged 17.5 PPG).
Peyton Broughton, North Laurel (2017) – The Eastern Kentucky University commit averaged 30.8 points per game and led North Laurel to a 24-8 overall record, coming up just short of a state tournament appearance in the 13th Region championship game. Michael Moreno, Scott County (2019) – The sophomore forward was sensational this year, averaging 22.2 points per game and 10.1 rebounds. Moreno and Scott County blitz it’s way to an 11th Region title before losing to eventual state champions Bowling Green in the ‘Sweet Sixteen’.
