Homewood-Flossmor Juniors lead Comeback Against St. Ignatius

St. Ignatius was the team with the hot start. [player_tooltip player_id="1385292" first="Phoenix" last="Gill"] is a new face to know. He’s a crafty 2025 PG with great ball-handling and awareness. He hit an Impressive fadeaway in first half. Gill also showed me his ability to score from all three levels. He made some tough layups and hit a couple three’s in the second half. 2023 SG [player_tooltip player_id="989270" first="Richard" last="Barron"] also had a strong start with a couple three’s and an and-one finish for nine quick points. 2023 F [player_tooltip player_id="939066" first="Jackson" last="Kotecki"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1295569" first="Owen" last="Kyhl"] also produced some nice plays and productive baskets for the Wolfpack. But it was Homewood-Flossmor who stormed ahead and secured the win. They were led by a powerful junior duo in [player_tooltip player_id="1285492" first="Lee" last="Marks"] and Carson Brownfield. Brownfield showed tons of confidence driving to the basket and letting it fly. He’s a bigger guard playing tough in the paint and making the the extra pass. Brownfield would score 26 points. Meanwhile, [player_tooltip player_id="1285492" first="Lee" last="Marks"] had some nice plays on both ends. He got up and down the floor quickly and fought for every rebound. His best play was an impressive fadeaway with a hand in his face. He’d finish with 15 points as Homewood-Flossmor would secure the win.

[player_tooltip player_id="1385293" first="Bryce" last="Heard"] Scores 20 to Lead Kenwood Past East St. Louis

[player_tooltip player_id="1385293" first="Bryce" last="Heard"] was quiet the first time I watched him yesterday. He and the Broncos got off to a slow start. But he responded with a solid 17-point performance the next game. Today, he was terrific. He hit two threes, slammed one home, and made a tough layup for 10 quick points. Heard would finish with 20 points as he found a variety of buckets all over the floor. He also made some great passes to get his teammates involved. Kenwood was up double-digits for most of the game. But East St. Louis’s [player_tooltip player_id="939073" first="Macaleab" last="Rich"] never folded. He had two amazing dunks in the 2nd half and finished with 17 points. He cut the lead to 4 at one point. But Kenwood 2024 G Christopher Riddle, after a year in Arizona, is back at Kenwood. He came up big for the Broncos. Especially at the end. Riddle had an important mid-range pull-up in the final minutes to give Kenwood a 7 point lead. Riddle also hit two free throws and made a terrific layup the following possession. On defense, he swatted away a crucial block and grabbed a rebound in the final seconds. Riddle finished with 15.

Hillcrest Loses to Glenbrook South, Beats Romeoville

The Hawks lost to Glenbrook South before I arrived to watch this one. Senior Point Guard [player_tooltip player_id="939078" first="Bryce" last="Tillery"] scored 20 points that game. Surprisingly, Glenbrook South went 4-0 this weekend. Junior Nick Taylor scored 32 points against De La Salle Friday for the Titans. Hillcrest responded nicely with a win over Romeoville. [player_tooltip player_id="1215285" first="Matthew" last="Moore"] got off to a strong start for Hillcrest down low. He boxed out well and took advantage of his size. Moore also made a great feed to Isaish Green in Transition. Hillcrest led 30-22 at halftime. They opened up the 2nd half with some excellent defending. 6’2” 2025 W Adam Page showed off some great perimeter defense with two steals that half. He followed it up with a great extra pass on the offensive end and another breakaway layup. Moore ended the game with two dunks and layup in the paint. Hillcrest beat Romeoville 60-49 as Moore scored 18.

Bolingbrook Beats Belleville East in Final Seconds

It was a close game to start. Bolingbrook 2023 PG Mehki Cooper buried a 3 off of a [player_tooltip player_id="1295497" first="Josh" last="Aniceto"] assist. He also made a great feed to [player_tooltip player_id="939035" first="Donaven" last="Younger"] for a breakaway jam. But Belleville East’s [player_tooltip player_id="1113516" first="Darien" last="Singleton"] had the best start of all. The 2023 guard started the game with 7 points for Belleville East. He then hit two more 3’s to bring his total to 13. Their lead was 11 at the time. For Bolingbrook, F [player_tooltip player_id="939035" first="Donaven" last="Younger"] made plays from several areas on the floor to keep them in it. He had a dunk in transition and just showed off his range with a three. He forced a turnover in the final seconds of the first half. But they trailed 32-24. Younger continued his strong defense with a block to start the 2nd half. Aniceto hit his 2nd 3 of the game, and the Raiders were back. [player_tooltip player_id="989271" first="Mekhi" last="Cooper"] added another three of his own to cut the deficit. Cooper then dished Younger running down the lane for another finish. Bolingbrook tied it and eventually took the lead off some terrific guard skills by Cooper and and Aniceto. East responded with some excellent physicality by 2025 C [player_tooltip player_id="939062" first="Alex" last="Jackson"] down low. Singleton hit another triple and a floater by [player_tooltip player_id="939071" first="Jordan" last="Pickett"] gave them the lead again.
