Grassroots Preview: Salt Lake Rebels
The Salt Lake Rebels Basketball Club is looking forward to the upcoming AAU basketball season. The club feels confident in the talent it possesses and the team is gearing up to play some big-time games.
Through the years the Rebels have always put a competitive team on the court as most if not all of their players can shoot the three ball really well. This year the Rebels will put together a few teams that have height. When you play with the Salt Lake Rebels it is not always about winning it is about developing and helping players strengthen their weaknesses. This year like other years the Rebels will be get their players in front of college coaches with a competitive schedule. The Rebels have also placed a lot of importance in making sure their players are all qualifiers.
Coach Evric Gray prides himself in teaching his players and not always relying on their natural talent. This year they will be developing 2018 7’0 C Levi Dunne out of American Fork. Putting Levi on the court with a player like 6’7 Armani Levine out of Alta opens up a lot of opportunities to attack and shoot in a more drive and kick style of play. with two solid bigs things can open up for SG Spencer Mackay out of Viewmont High School.
Salt Lake Rebels has a talented 16U team anchored by standout 2019 PG J.L Vaughn who is a man among boys on the court. Many coaches in the area are already raving about his ability to run the court and his vision.
The Salt Lake Rebels have some well respected coaches in Darius Beard, Mike O’Donnell and Myron Simms II. The Rebels owner Evric Gray will likely add one more coach this summer and one more 17U team. They practice 2-3 days a week.
