Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
Loney is still pretty raw as a basketball player, but there is no denying the size (listed at 6-11) and the potential that comes with that type of raw size. He’s a fairly mobile big man who runs the floor, can protect the rim, and finish around the bucket with either hand. He’s a project, but he could make a college coach look really smart.

Loney didn’t get much run at Johnston last season, averaging 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds in 12 games, but he’s one of the highest upside players in the state. He’s raw, but as the old saying goes, you can’t teach size, and Loney certainly has that. He’s a mobile big man who could become an impact player for the Dragons this season.

Loney has game-changing size, now up to about 6-10, and his skill set is rapidly improving to go with that size. He was able to routinely score on post touches, showing a nice little righty jump-hook with good footwork and great touch around the rim. As he continues to develop other post moves and counter moves, he’ll be really difficult to defend with his combination of size, length, and footwork. What really makes him a game changer, however, is his ability to protect the paint on the defensive end. He has really good instincts and timing on that end of the floor, making life difficult for opposing scorers in the painted area.

A young big man with game-changing size and length, Loney is a 6-9 forward who can control the painted area on both ends of the floor. His offensive game is still a work in progress, but, as they say, you can’t teach size, and Loney has plenty of it.
