Expert Analysis
Tony Roe | Prep Hoops Scout
The 6-5 junior wing was really good for the Dragons in their semifinal win over Waukee, with his biggest shot coming with just 2:45 left in the game, a huge catch-and-shoot 3 that pushed Johnston’s lead back up to five points and ended a 6:25 scoreless drought. He’s a rangy, athletic wing who is capable of spacing the floor and shooting it a high clip. He was really active on the glass against the bigger Warriors, giving the Dragons a needed presence in that facet of the game. He finished with 16 points (5-8 FG, 4-7 3P, 2-2 FT), 7 rebounds, and a block.

is often forced to play the four or five position for the Dragons, though he likely projects to playing small forward at the next level.
So, Johnston plays a space and pace oriented offense, where they play with five players on the perimeter and get out in transition to score. Jenkins is one of the main threats to shoot from the perimeter in their offense, and as a thinner, smaller big, he can get a good amount of minutes before he needs to sit on the bench. A corner-three merchant, Jenkins was knockdown from the corner for the Dragons, an almost automatic three points on the catch-and-shoot.

A long wing on the rise for Johnston,

is a long wing that showed bits and pieces of what he could be this winter for the Dragons. Athletic and a quick mover, Jenkins can create for himself off-the-dribble, using his long legs to create separation between he and his defender to get shots off.
If he can make a step-back shot with regularity and continue to develop as a ball-handler for Johnston, Jenkins will be incredibly difficult to defend this season. Defensively himself, Jenkins’ length is of note, and his athleticism only makes him a tougher defender to matchup with.
