Tulsa Memorial advances to the 5A championship
Tulsa Memorial advances to the 5A state championship game after defeating El Reno 69-65 behind Caleb Nero’s 30 points as well as Kobe Rose with 19.
After a classic game with Lawton Ike last night, Memorial came out ready to play as Nero scored the Chargers first 10 points.
El Reno would answer back led by Callen Haydon who scored 11 in the first quarter. Haydon would have six point streak which would put the Indians in the lead heading into halftime.
Kobe Rose came alive for Memorial in the second half and began to find his stroke. Rose hit two momentum changing threes to regain the lead. Rose was the difference make in the fourth quarter as he hit all of his free throws and made things as tough as possible for Haydon.
Haydon and the Indians put pressure on Memorial in the fourth but time became their enemy. Haydon finished with 34 points. Kale Owen added 8 points as well.
Memorial’s size was a deciding factor because when Rose or Nero would miss then Isiah Thomas or one of the Boone twins would clean up on the glass.
Memorial will go on to face Claremore tomorrow at the Mabee Center for the 5A crown.
