Class 3A State Tournament preview
The Class 3A State Tournament gets underway on Thursday afternoon at 2:00pm at SNU. Prep Hoops begins our first step of previewing the State Tournament Bracket in Class 3A. Get a look at some of the top players and a preview of each team.
Four players to watch
Coryon Mason 2017 Douglass Point Guard
Mason is a special player in Class 3A with his size, quickness and athleticism. He projects to the Division II to JUCO level with his size quickness. Mason is a scorer that can light up the scoreboard in a hurry.
Jacob Germany 2019 Kingston Post
Germany is an unknown to many across the state of Oklahoma, but that will change after this weekend. He stands at 6’10 in the Post with a smooth jumper. Germany is still very raw, but has great potential on the court.
Tyeus Daughtery 2017 Tahlequah Sequoyah Wing
Daughtery is a pure scorer from the Wing at 6’4. When Daughtery gets going he is very tough to stop from all three levels of scoring. He will be looked upon to carry a heavy dose of the scoring load for Tahlequah Sequoyah.
Quinton Johnson 2017 Centennial Forward
Johnson is a versatile 6’5 Forward that is a hybrid 3-4. He is getting many looks from Division II to JUCO programs. The size and height of Johnson is a colleges coaches dream at the small college level. He is sneaky athletic and really has a lot of untapped potential.
Teams
Oklahoma Centennial
Centennial has had a great season behind the talents of Quinton Johnson. They have a favorable matchup in the first round with Lincoln Christian in the first round.
Lincoln Christian
They have been the surprise of the season in Class 3A. For Lincoln Christian they couldn’t have drew a worse matchup. The quickness and toughness of Centennial will be tough to handle.
Douglass
A great group of guards led the way with Douglass. For the Trojans it all starts with Tre Edwards and Coryon Mason as the guard spots. Edwards and Mason will be huge keys to the Trojans bringing the Gold Ball home.
Okmulgee
They have the second most losses in the State Tournament field for Class 3A. Can Okmulgee bring one of their best games to the court on Thursday? That is the question that remains to be answered. Douglass plays a similar style.
Tahlequah Sequoyah
If you like the Golden State Warriors offense you will love watching Tahlequah Sequoyah’s system. Led by Tyeus Daughtery and Elan Eagle they have a load of guards with deep three-point range. Look for lots of three’s and points for Tahlequah Sequoyah.
Kingston
The size of Kingston will present every team in Class 3A difficulties. The key for Kingston to advance is to get the ball in the hands of Jacob Germany. Kingston will need to bring their best on Thursday.
Metro Christian
18-11 on the season Metro Christian was not expected to make the state tournament in Class 3A. But don’t tell them that. Landon Stretch is the player to watch for Metro Christian. He had 40 points in the Area bracket.
Star Spencer
The Bobcats have been an under the radar group all season long. They have great potential to make a deep run in the Class 3A State Tournament.
