This weekend many of the top grassroots teams from southeastern Pennsylvania will tip off their 2022 Spring season at the Hoop Group Spring Jam Fest. Widely considered one of the marquee Mid-Atlantic events of the spring grassroots season, the Spring Jam Fest boasts an extremely competitive field that includes powerhouse regional and national teams.

Below is a glance at the SEPA grassroots squads participating in this event as well their opening round opponent.

17U (2023):

Philly Pride Select: This will be an entertaining team to watch. The question is, can your eyes keep up with the pace of the action? Adam “Budd” Clark is the fastest end to end point guard in the region. [player_tooltip player_id="1382972" first="Justin" last="Poles"] is a lightening quick combo guard and shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="1382970" first="Nadir" last="Myers"] owns one of the quickest triggers in SEPA. That backcourt group will lead the charge on Friday night vs. the NJ Bulldogs.

PSB Philly: Strath Haven’s [player_tooltip player_id="1379478" first="Jaden" last="Jauregui"] and Haverford’s [player_tooltip player_id="1382973" first="Alex" last="Seidman"] are a backcourt that can torch the nets from deep. Slasher wing prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1122142" first="Collin" last="Bowman"] is another scoring threat opposing teams will have to guard tightly. PSB Philly gets their 2022 spring season rolling on Saturday vs. NJ Pirates.

BW Elite: Multi-skilled wing prospect Marcus Branker, Jr. is an extremely unique prospect who scores at all three levels. Lefty guard Malcolm Muhammad will rain triples all day. Those are just two of the names on this roster who will play at the next level. BW Elite 17U begins their spring season on Friday night against Panthers Select.

York Ballers HGSL: College coaches need to witness the talent on this team immediately. Combo guard Karron Mallory is a high-level talent we have previously featured on Prep Hoops. Mallory’s running mates include Central York standout guard Ethan Dodson and 6”4” wing shooter [player_tooltip player_id="1185959" first="Nolan" last="Gilbert"] from Cumberland Valley. York Ballers 17U open play on Friday night against Diallo HGSL.

Prim3Tim3 HGSL: After tremendous performances at the Donofrio Classic Tournament (PA), this squad is now on everyone’s radar. With prospects like Swiss army knife [player_tooltip player_id="1116055" first="Lucas" last="Orchard"], shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="1119137" first="Jackson" last="Hicke"] and versatile wing [player_tooltip player_id="1178095" first="Jacen" last="Holloway"] spearheading things, they should continue to post a big spring on the grassroots circuit. This group hits the court Friday night vs. Crown.

16U (2024):

BW Elite: Brad Wannamaker’s (BW) 16U roster is stacked with players who brought home state tournament hardware last month. High energy, fleet footed backcourt prospect [player_tooltip player_id="1123910" first="Khaafiq" last="Myers"] posted 9.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4 assists per contest for 4A state champion Neumann-Goretti. Myers is a major college prospect. On Friday night this BW Elite squad will take on Team Richmond HGSL.

Philly Pride Select: This team is going to surprise folks this spring. The roster possesses an abundance of backcourt talent, and they will look to push the tempo. Keep an eye on combo guard [player_tooltip player_id="1123911" first="Ron" last="Brown III"], shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id="1281765" first="Brendan" last="Styer"] and slashing wing [player_tooltip player_id="1173983" first="Amari" last="Dow"]. Philly Pride Select begins the weekend with a Friday night matchup with NJ Panthers HGSL.

Philly Revolution: This roster had a very successful 2021 grassroots season and a trio of budding Philly Catholic League stars -- LaQuan Byrd, [player_tooltip player_id="1423298" first="Josh" last="Reed"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1173991" first="Jaden" last="Murray"] -- will look to keep that momentum rolling. Those three will have significant help from Episcopal Academy standout [player_tooltip player_id="1188249" first="Kevin" last="McCarthy"]. The Revolution open play on Friday night against NY Lightening HGSL.

Team Final EYBL: The No. 2 team in our final July 2021, SEPA 15U rankings tips off their spring 2022 season in Manheim, PA. For openers, [player_tooltip player_id="1213553" first="Thomas" last="Sorber"], [player_tooltip player_id="1116063" first="Robert" last="Wright III"], [player_tooltip player_id="1123886" first="Amir" last="Williams"], [player_tooltip player_id="991425" first="Moses" last="Hipps"] and Ma’kye Taylor will take on Rising Stars (NY) on Friday night. We expect this group to make a deep run this weekend and post an extremely successful spring circuit.

Team Final Red HGSL: TFR finished the July 2021 grassroots season at No. 5 in our weekly 15U rankings and most of that squad is back here in 2022. Standout interior presence [player_tooltip player_id="1130840" first="David" last="Fridia"] will lead this TFR group in their Friday night opener vs. Mason Elite.

York Ballers HGSL: Artie Poindexter, a point guard with elusive dribbles, and combo guard Carter Horst are two Pennsylvania prospects flying under the radar. Both players helped lead their high school teams to the 2022 PIAA state tournament. This York Ballers squad opens play on Friday night against NJ Shoreshots – Iasparro.

15U (2025):

Philly Pride National UAA: This extremely talented squad will be “playing up” this weekend in the 16U division. That should not pose a problem for talented 2025 prospects like shooting guard Jacob Nguyen and floor general Jordan Ellerbee. In the first round this group faces a Gibbs Elite squad that will present a solid challenge.

Philly Revolution: The Philadelphia Catholic League’s outstanding Class of 2025 is well represented on this Revolution roster. Highlighting that list is Father Judge’s trio of small forward [player_tooltip player_id="1188649" first="Kiev" last="Rucker"], floor general [player_tooltip player_id="1197608" first="Kevair" last="Kennedy"] and 6’4” wing [player_tooltip player_id="1197606" first="Kevin" last="Beck"]. Also watch for Lower Merion point guard Lamont Grier. He is a super quick prospect with filthy handles. The Revolution will battle Gibbs Elite (PA) on Saturday morning.

Team Final EYBL: Standout 2025 backcourt players [player_tooltip player_id="1382983" first="Deuce" last="Maxey"], [player_tooltip player_id="1136565" first="Jake" last="West"], [player_tooltip player_id="1188627" first="Milan" last="Dean"], and the rest of Team Final 15U opens their spring runs on Friday with a contest against the always talented Boo Williams HGSL program. Last month West helped Archbishop Carroll make a run to the 4A state tournament semifinals.

York Ballers HGSL: When this York ballers squad hits the floor be sure to keep an eye on interior force [player_tooltip player_id="1287318" first="Carter" last="Wamsley"] and crafty guard [player_tooltip player_id="1287319" first="Ben" last="Natal"]. During their freshman seasons both prospects caught the attention of college coaches. This group opens play on Friday night with a highly anticipated contest against NY Rens United HGSL.
