McBrayer Arena on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University. All 16 teams played in the opening round on Thursday. We have a collection of the best performances from the first session games.
Danville Christian – Senior Guard, Xavier Oduor
Oduor helped keep the Warriors within striking distance with his relentless attacking. Oduor is a athletic guard that found gaps in the defense to make plays.
Murray – Senior Wing, Trey Boggess
Boggess was the steady, senior leader that you would expect to bring the toughness and maturity a hyped up, emotional game. Boggess filled the stat sheet scoring 15 points, collecting 6 rebounds, and dishing out 5 assists. He lived in the paint area and finished perfect from the charity stripe; going 7-7.
Murray – Freshman Wing, Kobe Watson
Watson was the sharpshooter of the game knocking down four 3-point attempts. Watson seemed to always knock down a key shot to allow the Tigers to maintain their margin. Look for Watson to be a silent x-factor in the next round.
Pikeville – Junior Forward, Rylee Samons Rylee Samons 6'7" | SF Pikeville | 2023 State KY
Samons had the most efficient production of the morning session. He finished with 24 points in 24 minutes, including 8-8 from the free-throw line and connecting on four 3-point attempts. Samons also had 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.
Owensboro Catholic – Junior Guard, Brian Griffith Brian Griffith 5'9" | PG Owensboro Catholic | 2023 State KY
Griffith played his heart out for the Aces. As one of the primary ball handlers, Griffith constantly had a defender to battle with. He did not have the best shooting game but still made plays for his team finishing with 17 points, grabbing 8 rebounds, and earning 6 assists.
Owensboro Catholic – Junior Forward, JiAirius Webb
Webb played lively in the paint area and was flying around on the defensive end. Webb finished with 16 points and snagged 9 rebounds.
West Carter – Senior Guard, Jackson Bond
Bond was an impressive, scoring guard that had several smooth drives to the rim. Bond is a good slasher without the ball and found a way to dig out rebounds by constantly moving around. He had a couple of big buckets in crunch time to extend the game for the Comets finishing with 21 points.
Todd County Central – Senior Guard, Preston Moore
Moore is the spirited leader for the Rebels and was the main guy bringing the energy on every possession. Moore is a fierce, downhill driver that can get his shot off at the rim without much resistance. Moore finished with 16 points and 6 rebounds.
Todd County Central – Sophomore Forward, Jamison Glass
Glass is a left-handed, slashing forward that uses his length as a real asset. Glass altered dozens of shots and had his hands near almost every shot around the rim. He also possessed an impressive soft touch around the rim. Glass finished with 9 points, gathered 9 rebounds, and swatted 7 shots helping the Rebels advance to the second round.
