BROOKFIELD -- The 2022 Annual Luke Homan Showcase tipped off from Brookfield Central on Saturday, featuring a number of the state’s top teams and players...

[player_tooltip player_id="1324009" first="Ja’Quell" last="Chisom"] - 2022 - SG - Pius XI

Look for Chisom to be one of the top risers in the senior class by the end of this season. Caught him during some fall league action and Chisom looked the part again on Saturday. A smooth, athletic three-level scorer, Chisom has an outstanding mid-range game. Love his ability to face up in the high post, size his man up, and just go to work. The 6-foot-4 wing can also score fading away from the basket. Defensively, Chisom has stopper potential on that end of the floor as well. Pius uses him at the top of their zone and press to affect passing lanes and generate turnovers. Chisom finished with 19 points, including 14 in the first half as the Popes ran away with an easy win.

[player_tooltip player_id="1115915" first="Tyran" last="Cook"] - 2023 - SG - Waukesha South

Cook dropped 33 points in a loss to Lake Country Lutheran. The junior guard has developed into one of the top players in his class over the last year. A strong, athletic guard that gets downhill and puts a lot of pressure on the defense, Cook is very difficult to keep away from the rim. When the lefty mixes in his mid-range game, he forces defenders to give up something. Cook was able to knock down shots with a hand in his face and/or while off-balance. Against bigger teams, Cook has shown the ability to utilize the floater and has terrific touch even while coming down the lane at top-end speed. Also an aggressive defender, Cook can get into people, make them uncomfortable, and cause havoc without fouling.

[player_tooltip player_id="1367034" first="Nick" last="Ferge"] - 2022 - F - Marquette

Ferge is a difficult matchup. He’s a 6-foot-6 combo forward who can handle the ball and attack in the open floor. In the halfcourt, Ferge is a solid floor spacer that feeds off dribble penetration. When he can’t get all the way to the rim on the drive, Ferge does a great job of keeping his head up and kicking to open shooters. Given his blend of intriguing skill, size, and versatility, Ferge is a player we’ll be monitoring the rest of the season for a spot in the rankings. Potentially a sneaky good pickup for a Division 3/small school program.

[player_tooltip player_id="1142121" first="Tim" last="Franks"] - 2024 - SG - Homestead

Franks had a big second half and poured in 26 points to lead Homestead past Marquette. A natural scorer who’s efficient and isn’t limited in terms of the ways he can put the ball in the hole, Franks is a tough matchup for most guards. Add in his lanky, 6-foot-4 frame, there’s not a lot defenders can do at times. Franks has the tools to score inside-out. He’s a floor spacer and knockdown 3-point shooter, but also capable of using his size on the block and creating matchup problems. The more I watch him, the more I think he’s a better athlete than he gets credit for as well. Maybe doesn’t move as fluidly as you like, but watching him attack the offensive glass or rip and go from the perimeter, there’s definitely some quiet explosiveness there.

[player_tooltip player_id="1203046" first="Andrew" last="Graf"] - 2024 - G - Brookfield East

Thought Graf had one of his better performances against Neenah. He’s not always going to get a ton of looks with the firepower that the Spartans have in their backcourt and it can be tough to get in a rhythm when you go so long in between shots, but Graf was very consistent when his number was called. In a grind-it-out, defensive battle, Graf had a team-high 12 points on just a handful of field goal attempts. A quick guard who can shoot on the move, Graf is undersized (5-9), but difficult to stay with. With so much attention going to his two upperclassmen teammates in the backcourt, Graf can get lost at times, but is a very dangerous shooter. He also knows how to get defenders off their feet and can hit little runners in the paint instead of attacking bigs around the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="761407" first="Luke" last="Haertle"] - 2022 - SG - Lake Country Lutheran

Haertle notched 28 points, eight rebounds, six steals, and five assists as Lake Country Lutheran upended Waukesha South in one of the top games of the day. The Blackshirts threw a number of different looks at Haerlte and after a slow start, the Wisconsin commit seemed to be able to figure out the calls and take advantage. Haertle’s post and mid-range game make it difficult for opponents to throw double teams at him. Haertle understands where the soft spots are in the defense and makes advanced reads with the basketball in traffic. When he got two feet in the paint, Haertle almost always got defenders airborne with a shot fake, leading to a three-point play. Currently leading an undefeated team, Haertle has been able to elevate himself in big games all year and pack the stat sheet along the way.

[player_tooltip player_id="1142142" first="Jaquan" last="Johnson"] - 2024 - PG - Pius XI

Johnson battled some foul trouble in the first half against Racine Park. Once he turned it on in the second half...it was over. The sophomore guard had a huge second half and finished with a game-high 31 points. To help salt the game away, Johnson was living at the free throw line in the second half, simply not allowing Park any chance of getting back in the game. The 5-foot-8 guard is a tough, hard-nosed prospect that doesn’t let his size dictate the way he plays the game. Johnson has an electrifying first step that allows him to knife into gaps. He doesn’t shy away from contact and has the upper body strength and body control to take it right into the chest of defenders, hang in the air, and finish. Also a dangerous 3-point shooter and facilitator, Johnson impacts the game in a variety of ways. While he’s got the speed to get coast-to-coast, Johnson is selfless enough to push it up the floor with the pass if it’s available. In addition to his 31 points, Johnson had a handful of steals defensively and turned it into transition offense the other way.

Louie Schwabe - 2023 - F - Muskego

Maybe the biggest surprise of the day, Schwabe had 23 points against a talented West Allis Central squad. The 6-foot-4 forward was a real problem for the opposition all day. Every time it looked like Central was going to run away, it felt like Schwabe came back and answered the runs. Schwabe is a fluid athlete with some skill who can put the ball on the deck and use crafty footwork to navigate in the paint. Also like his ability to draw and finish against contact, use head fakes and pump fakes to get defenders in the air, and lay the ball up softly on the rim even under durress.

[player_tooltip player_id="761411" first="Najashi" last="Tolefree"] - 2022 - SF - West Allis Central

Just another day at the office for Tolefree, who went for 26 points and five assists in a double-digit win over Muskego. The Northern Michigan commit was very effective in the open floor, getting a head of steam to the rim and finishing at top-end speed. In the half court, Tolefree can live from the high post. At 6-foot-5, Tolefree’s blend of length and strength allows him to slash through defenders to pull up in the mid range. Tolefree also facilitated the ball really well. When he catches, defenders are likely to cheat in order to protect the rim, Tolefree burned the opposition for their over-aggressiveness throughout the game.

[player_tooltip player_id="1289018" first="Willie" last="Williams"] - 2024 - G - Racine Park

Williams gave the Panthers a spark off the bench after his team was struggling early. The sophomore guard was flying around and turned defense into transition offense. An athletic, downhill guard, Williams looked terrific at times, breaking down the defense and finishing against contact. Williams is a little undersized as an attacking guard, but features some added length and explosive athletic ability. His free throw shooting and ball protection needs work, but Williams can rack up trips to the line. Off the bounce, he plays low to the ground and evades defenders trying to pick his pocket. In a loss to Pius XI, Williams scored a team-high 16 points to go along with six assists.

Up Next: Top Sleepers from the Luke Homan Showcase
