The 2023 Rankings All-Star Team is a collection of all the players ranked by their position. Based on their positional rankings, we came up with the following teams:

First team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="1080161" first="Marcus" last="Zeigler"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="1080176" first="Avery" last="Johnson"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1080165" first="Will" last="Rost"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="1080162" first="Caleb" last="Wiese"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1080159" first="Will" last="Anciaux"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1080174" first="Jack" last="Wilson"].

Second Team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="1080166" first="Jordan" last="McGowan"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="1080170" first="Kobe" last="Smith"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1080189" first="Eli" last="Shetlar"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="1080163" first="Eli" last="Sawyers"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1080164" first="Tyler" last="Little"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1080186" first="Will" last="Mlynek"].

Third team: PG [player_tooltip player_id="1080175" first="Garrett" last="Robertson"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="1080168" first="Jack" last="Bachelor"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1080178" first="Britton" last="Dutton"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="1080185" first="BJ" last="Redic"], PF [player_tooltip player_id="1080180" first="Jack" last="Voth"], and C [player_tooltip player_id="1080188" first="Joe" last="Otting"].

Recognizing that many of our ranked players could play several different positions (and some of the top players defy a position category), this is by no means a grouping of the best players into teams. But just for fun, we made teams of the players based off their rankings.

You will notice, just three of the players on those three all-star teams (Sawyers, Little and Dutton) comes from a school in the 3A classification or smaller.

So to give the small school guys their due, we created the 2023 Rankings Small School All-Star teams, the top player at each of our six positional classifications from a 1A, 2A or 3A school.

The Small School First Team included: PG [player_tooltip player_id="1080187" first="Brekyn" last="Ratzlaff"], CG [player_tooltip player_id="1080184" first="Wesley" last="Fair"], SG [player_tooltip player_id="1080178" first="Britton" last="Dutton"], SF [player_tooltip player_id="1080163" first="Eli" last="Sawyers"], and PF [player_tooltip player_id="1080164" first="Tyler" last="Little"]. There is as yet no center ranked to include on this list.

Here’s the 2023 Rankings Small School Second Team, (listed by position, name, state ranking/positional ranking, size and high school):

Small School Second Team:

Point Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1080195" first="Makaen" last="Hastings"], #37/#11, 5-foot-10, Solomon HS (1A Div. 1):

Hastings tears up the small school ranks. His combination of quickness and power on the drive, combined with his ability to create and hit tough shots, makes him an exciting player. He averaged 17 points as a sophomore, in addition to 3 steals. He gets high marks from his SSA Hoops Elite club for his passing and ball handling as well.

Combo Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1146270" first="Keller" last="Hurla"], #35/#7, 6-foot, St. Marys HS (3A):

A versatile guard who can really shoot, Hurla plays with a high IQ and understands how to perform within the team concept. Hurla earned third-team 3A as a sophomore and will be one of the top small school guards the next couple of seasons. He played up this summer and got a lot of good exposure to high-level opposition.

Shooting Guard: [player_tooltip player_id="1212170" first="Mario" last="Menghini"], #69/#11, 6-foot-2, Frontenac HS (3A):

A tough multi-sport athlete who can play with power and finesse, Menghini will team with big man [player_tooltip player_id="1195604" first="Jordan" last="Fudge"] to give Frontenac some unrivaled athleticism. Menghini earned honorable mention 3A last year and is a veteran of a lot of hoops wars already.

Small Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="1080917" first="Kamryn" last="Kaniper"], #49/#9, 6-foot-4, Silver Lake HS (3A) (pictured):

Kaniper is a long leaper who glides effortlessly on the court and explodes at times to make impressive plays. Kaniper hasn’t shown all he’s capable of yet for Silver Lake, partly because of the presence of some really good 2021s. His scoring ticked up as the season progressed. He’ll be a force this season.

Power Forward: [player_tooltip player_id="1146294" first="Jerrit" last="Norris"], #58/#8, 6-foot-4, Troy, (1A Div. 1):

The double-double machine for Troy will just become more and more dominant at the 1A level. Last year, en route to a third-team 1A Div. 1 honor, he averaged 18.1 points and 10.1 rebounds a game.

Center: none

There are just three centers currently in the 2023 rankings, all from schools in higher classifications.
