Things got off to a fast start the first three days of the month as the NW Sports Hub in Centralia hosted WCE’s Battle in Seattle. We got a chance to catch a number of games on days two and three of the event and it felt good to soak in the first real club basketball action in over a year.
Our focus was on Oregon-based teams and some of the best were there. Here’s a look at some more of the top performers from the rising junior class.
Marcus McKinney Marcus McKinney 6'0" | CG Gresham | 2023 State OR , International Elite 16U (2023 Benson)
McKinney was extremely aggressive on the offensive end and really attacked the basket, often drawing contact which he would finish through at times. He hit some perimeter shots as well to keep the defense honest.
Jared Sucher, International Elite 16U (2023 Sherwood)
Sucher immediately caught our attention because of his lanky yet solid build and his very nice looking outside shot. The rotation on the ball was very tight on his shots and he also wasn’t afraid to take the ball inside for scores.
Jah Allah Van, International Elite 16U (2023 De La Salle North)
Allah Van may be small but he’s extremely quick. He pushed the ball up the floor and showed off a pretty nice shooting touch out to three-point range.
Skyler Schmidt Skyler Schmidt 6'8" | SF Central Catholic | 2023 OR , International Elite 16U (2023 Scappoose)
What immediately impressed us about Schmidt was his solid body and length. He moved like a wing at 6-foot-7 and was active on the boards and around the hoop offensively.
