Continue ReadingThe basketball season is full tilt in Oklahoma. With the fall 2017 class signing their letters of intent many colleges have turned their attention to the 2018 Class. As Prep Hoops Oklahoma prepares to release a new addition of the 2018 class rankings we look at ten players who will be moving up in the rankings. Below are ten players at all different levels who have elevated their stock.
Derrick Walter Jr. Midwest City 2018 Wing
Walter is a 6’5 smooth shooter from the Wing with great upside. At Midwest City Walter has started since his freshman season, this year Walter has turned a new leaf. He is starting to turn into more of a threat offensively than just a really good outside shooter. Walter will attract high Division II to Low Major Division I offers over his recruitment. He could also be a JUCO prospect that works to develop his skills over two years and then go to a higher Division I school. The potential for Walter at the next level to be successful is high with the way he moves without the ball, his shooting talents, size and great basketball IQ.
Camden Patterson Ringwood 2018 Forward
Patterson is the best kept secret in the Oklahoma 2018 class. Starting with his size at 6’10, Patterson has Division I written all over his game. He has really started to develop his overall game in the post. Patterson is projected as a Division I Low Major to Mid Major prospect at the next level. He will move inside the top ten of the 2018 Class for Oklahoma with his new improvements. Playing in the Under Armour Association over the past summer helped Patterson see what he needs to work on against elite talent and improve.
Brooks Haddock Muskogee 2018 Wing
Haddock made a move to Muskogee from Sand Springs this fall, but his role has not changed. He continues to fill it up from all over the court. Haddock stands at 6’3 with a solid handle of the basketball. He is projected as one of the better Division II prospects in the Oklahoma 2018 Class. The shooting skills Haddock has developed over his high school career put him as one of the best shooters in the Oklahoma class. Haddock will make a move towards the top 15 in the Oklahoma 2018 class.
Will Graham Westmoore 2018 Point Guard
Graham will make a college program very happy when they land his services at the Point Guard spot. He is turning into a do it all Point Guard and his potential to impact a program at the next level is scary good. At this time Prep Hoops projects Graham as a high Division II prospect. Size is the one thing that limits Graham, with that said if he went to a JUCO and continued to improve Graham would have a shot at the Division I level. Graham is a tweener as far as recruiting goes with some viewing him as a high Division II prospect, but with an amazing summer Graham has the skills to get a small Low Major Division I look.
Jon Matthews Heritage Hall 2018 Point Guard
Matthews is one of the quickest guards in the class with scary handles that put defenders on skates as they attempt to guard him. Over the summer playing on the Under Armour Circuit has prepared Matthews to dominate the Oklahoma high school basketball scene. Matthews does a great job of running the show at the Point Guard getting his teammates looks most guards couldn’t. The speed of Matthews, plus his ball handling, and vision make him an attractive player to colleges. Matthews is projected to the Division II level. He will be one of the most highly sought after Division II players in the 2018 Oklahoma class. Matthews will be towards the top 15 in the new rankings.
Stephon Hall Mount Saint Mary’s 2018 Point Guard
Hall is a mix of a little bit of everything at the Point Guard spot. He has taken his game to another level this high school season. The biggest change I can see is it looks like Hall is playing with more confidence. Hall is difference from Graham and Matthews at the Point Guard spot is he is a better shooter. He is not as quick, but the shooting skills of Hall make him tough to guard. Hall will be right behind Graham and Matthews in the new Oklahoma rankings inside of the top 20.
Greg Thomas Putnam City West 2018 Guard
Thomas is one of the biggest players that has flown under the radar for quite some time. From behind the arc Thomas is a dead eye, especially in the clutch. Thomas does not run a whole lot of the Point Guard duties at Putnam City West, but does at times. Mainly, Thomas is used as an off guard who can handle the ball and knock down shots. He is not a player that jacks up shots, but a player that takes wise shots and gets his teammates involved. Thomas will be right around 20 moving up in the new rankings.
Dalton Vinson Hennessy 2018 Forward
Vinson is the best kept secret on this entire list. Vinson has the opportunity to go to the Division I level with his size, athleticism and growth in the game. The maturing he has done on the basketball court over the past year has been extraordinary. Vinson is 6’8 and moves well with his feet on the court. He can stretch the floor with a nice mid-range shot and his speed and athleticism allow him to run the floor well. Vinson has the opportunity to slide well within the top 15 in the Oklahoma rankings.
Blake Owens Putnam City North 2018 Forward
Owens is going to be a steal for a Division II or JUCO program when he signs. He is every bit of 6’7 with a long wingspan, which allows him to block and effect his opponents shots. Owens is starting to make smart basketball decisions on the floor. You can tell it is starting to click with him. Owens has improved his offensive game around the basket. Owens projects to the Division II level, but it will be interesting to see how he improves. The size and skill set Owens has does not come around very often in Oklahoma.
Jalen Crutchfield Norman North 2018 Wing
Crutchfield has started to really tap into his potential this season on the hardwood for Norman North. There is not a better catch and shoot three-point shooter in the 2018 Oklahoma class than Crutchfield. When Trae Young throws the ball Crutchfield’s way even if it is a slight opening Crutchfield uses his quick release to get the shot off. It will be interesting to see what level of schools recruit Crutchfield over the next year.
