Wilkinson was one of the most impressive underclassmen I saw over the weekend. A 6-3 wing with length, he’s a good athlete who runs the floor hard and looks to score in transition. He rebounds at a high level on both ends of the floor, and has a good looking stroke from the perimeter. He has a quick first step and is a good enough ball-handler to get by his defender and get to the rim. As he continues to mature, he’ll need to tighten up his handle more, but he’s a good enough ball-handler right now to get the job done at this level.
2025 SF Kiki Deng (Valley)
Curtis Stinson Jr. is the headliner for Valley’s 2025 class, but Deng flashed some potential on both ends of the floor as well for the Tigers. A long, 6-3 wing, he can impact the game defensively with his length and athleticism. He has the ability to put the ball on the floor and get to the rim both in the halfcourt and in transition, and he showed some good court vision, looking to push the ball ahead and get easy buckets for teammates on the break.
2024 SG Braylon Dawes (Panorama)
A confident shooter with “in the gym” range, look for Dawes to be a key piece for the Panthers moving forward. They lost their top five scorers from last year’s team, and will be looking for new options who can put the ball in the bucket. He had 20 points when we saw them play against Knoxville, including four 3-pointers. He has a quick, smooth release off the catch and he moves well off the ball.
2025 SG Gabe Clark (Knoxville)
Another big-time shooter, Clark is small but he’s armed with a pure stroke and the ability to move off the ball at a high level. He had 16 points for the Panthers in their win over Panorama, knocking down his first four 3-pointers of the game.
2024 SF Nolan Cogdill (Ballard)
Cogdill is an intriguing young wing at 6-6 with a ton of length. He showed that he can move his feet when defending on the perimeter, and his length can really create some issues on that end of the floor. He showed the ability to get by the defender and get to the bucket in the halfcourt and he can stretch the floor with his perimeter stroke. Look for Cogdill to be a key contributor to a Bombers team that lost a lot of production from last year’s team, but still figures to be a contender in 3A.
2024 PF Chase Schutty Chase Schutty 6'4" | PF Centennial | 2024 State IA (Centennial)
The 6-4 forward did a great job throughout the weekend of defending inside the paint. He does a good job staying vertical and avoiding fouls when he’s contesting shots, but he still makes life difficult for opposing scorers. He’s an agile big man who runs the floor and has some potential on the offensive end, but where he really stood out was with his rim protection and rebounding.
2025 PF Markese Harvey-Bell (Des Moines Lincoln)
A 6-4 young big man, Harvey-Bell showed a really natural feel for the game. He’s a mobile big man who runs the floor and rebounds at a high level on both ends of the court. Where he really stood out, however, was with his passing. He’s someone that you can play through by putting him in the high post, as he sees the floor well and has a good, natural feel for passing the ball.
2024 SG Tyler Gelhaar (ADM)
ADM loses their top two, and five of their top seven, scorers from last year’s team, so there may be some room for this sharpshooting guard to fill in. He knocked down four 3-pointers in their loss to Newton, showing the ability to shoot it effectively both off the dribble and the catch.
