2023 Jahn Lamothe sets June visits
Many of the 2022 prospects have already began taking their official or unofficial visits this month. With the recruiting restrictions being lifted on June 1, it allows colleges to also begin investing in the younger classes such as 2023 by welcoming the rising juniors to campus. Jahnathan Lamothe, a standout guard for St. Frances and Team Durant , sat down with Prep Hoops Maryland to discuss his travel schedule for the month of June with some of the programs who have been prioritizing him and reaching out to his coaches and mother.
Pittsburgh (June 11)-“Coach Jeff Capel has been reaching out to my mom, especially after we played in Pitt Jam Fest. He loves how I played out there and just thinks I can fit in well up there.”
Georgetown (June 15)- “The relationship with Georgetown is definitely getting better since they offered me. I’ve had the chance to speak with them and they’ve also reached out to my AAU coaches like Coach Wayne [Pratt] and Dwayne Wise. Coach Akbar [Waheed] has been reaching out to my mom a lot just telling her that the coaching staff loves my game and that the head coach Patrick Ewing feels like I can fit in with their style of play.
Rutgers (June 18)-They’ve been reaching out to Coach Wayne about all my games. Especially through the two Hoop Group sessions. They’ve been following me pretty closely and assistant coach Steve Hayn speaks highly of me, so that’s my relationship with them.”
VCU (June 25)-“I’ve had a relationship with them for a while now since they were coming to the gym for Ace Baldwin. It’s been a growing relationship with them from the start, so they’ve done a good job.”
Ohio State (June 29)-“With Coach Tony [Skinn] going from Seton Hall to Ohio State, we’ve had a relationship since he offered me at Seton Hall. So I feel like he’s just keeping me with him and going to introduce me to the rest of the coaching staff and stuff. He was the one that was mainly recruiting me at Seton Hall, so we have an established relationship already.”
Lamothe is highly regarded among his class at a national level and when we update our 2023 MD/DC player rankings, you can expect him to make a serious push for a top three position. He currently sits at No. 5, but with Kwame Evans transferring to Montverde, that opens up an extra spot in itself. He’s put together a productive spring for Team Durant and continues to display growth in his offensive ability as a lead guard. Already known for his outside shooting, Lamothe is becoming more comfortable making plays off the bounce for others and himself. His role at St. Frances next season is set to increase dramatically, as he’ll be expected to be a primary playmaker alongside the top rising sophomore in the country, Derik Queen Derik Queen 6'9" | PF Montverde Academy | 2024 State #18 Nation FL .
Lamothe’s stock experienced a drastic increase after his play with Team Durant last spring and now has cemented himself as a prospect that many power five conferences will court heavily.
“Ever since I got my first offer it’s been a dream come true,” Lamothe told Prep Hoops. “Not just for me, but for my whole family. Especially my mom. She’s been so excited and with all that she’s been going through during the season and my dad with all the work we’ve been putting in, it’s a blessing. My brothers are happy for me because they really didn’t get the opportunity that I’m getting right now. I’ve just been praying for this moment for a long time, so just being able to go to a campus and be recruited by these high major schools is just surreal. It’s all a blessing.”
