Many 15u teams impressed and there were a ton of games that came down to the wire, including some crazy comebacks and even some overtime thrillers. Sunday looks to be an incredible day for some championship basketball. Here are some players that really impressed me in the games I was able to watch today:
Evan Crotts PG Next Level:
Crotts is one of the best guards in the 2024 class. He’s always under control with the ball in his hands. In every game I watched, he was above 50% from three and taking deep, difficult shots. In the first game, there was a stretch where I saw him nail four or five triples in a row. He has a sort of confidence and swagger in his game that he plays with. He’s a great passer and a true point guard.
Gavin Loper G RSE:
Loper is a combo guard that absolutely plays his tail off. He’s only 5’11, so his rebounding initially stood out to me. Sure enough, I checked the box score after the game to see he posted 10 rebounds. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he tallied a Russell Westbrook-like double double to go with it, adding 25 points too. Loper’s game is smooth, he’s great around the rim and is a straight up pure scorer.
Nik Rhodes PG OBC:
Rhodes is a walking bucket. He has a perfect looking jump shot that you think is gonna go in every time. He was hitting from everywhere on Saturday. He couldn’t miss from three, but also demonstrated an impressive ability to create his own shot with a silky smooth midrange jumper too. Rhodes is quick with the ball in is hands and fast in transition. He’s a guard that is going to be a QUICK riser in this 2024 class.
Dontrell Yearby G Buddy Buckets:
Yearby is the perfect size for a combo guard with the handles and feel of a true point guard. He’s long and lanky and uses that to his advantage on the defensive end. Yearby has the quickest first step I saw all day, as he had everyone falling for his lethal jab step. He finishes around the rim with ease and has a smooth looking jump shot. It wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see Yearby near the top of his class.
James Wilson F 6thman Oklahoma 2024:
Wilson is a 6’6 rebounding machine. The big man was tough and physical all day long. What really impressed me the most is how well he ran the floor at that size, he scored in transition and was always there to clean up the miss. Wilson was quick to find a body on box outs and was always in the right spot. He had an incredible day all around and no team I watched had an answer for a guy that big and that athletic.
