The season is set to begin in a couple of weeks and it’s time to look at the top players that are coming back. We checked with the coaches in 5A to see who they are expecting to return and contribute. Based on the responses we received, these are the top rebounders that are returning (listed with rpg):

[player_tooltip player_id="964538" first="Jake" last="Newell"], Thurston (8.5)
[player_tooltip player_id="965080" first="TJ" last="Zimmerman"], West Albany (8.0)
[player_tooltip player_id="1181855" first="Cayden" last="Lowenbach"], Crook County (6.8)
[player_tooltip player_id="815599" first="Luke" last="Smith"], Willamette (6.7)
[player_tooltip player_id="855937" first="Isaiah" last="Gilliam"], South Albany (6.5)
Ashton Foster, Dallas (6.4)
[player_tooltip player_id="855969" first="Justin" last="Hamilton"], Crescent Valley (6.0)
Cole Weber, Lebanon (6.0)
[player_tooltip player_id="642058" first="Trey" last="Bryant"], Springfield (5.8)
[player_tooltip player_id="1069461" first="Kevin" last="Sanchez"], Crook County (5.3)

Analysis: Had Nathan Bittle returned, the Oregon signee would have easily captured the rebounding title. Instead one of the top tight ends in the state, [player_tooltip player_id="964538" first="Jake" last="Newell"] (2022 Thurston) had a breakout sophomore campaign and the 6-foot-4 junior should once again be one of 5A’s top rebounders. Another football standout in T.J. Zimmerman (2021 West Albany) will be able to dominate the boards once again and may have even more opportunities to grab rebounds as a couple of other Bulldog big men decided to opt out.

[player_tooltip player_id="1181855" first="Cayden" last="Lowenbach"] (2021 Crook County), a recent Linfield commit, is unmatched in size in the IMC and should once again dominate the glass. Tough guards such as [player_tooltip player_id="815599" first="Luke" last="Smith"] (2021 Willamette) and [player_tooltip player_id="855937" first="Isaiah" last="Gilliam"] (2021 South Albany) will be key rebounders as well.
