4A Sectionals are underway and we have got a big slate of high school hoops going on in the state of Indiana. Let us dive on in and take a look at some highlights of Tuesday’s night of hoops.

Sectional 15

Last night the Seymour Sectional kicked things off with two southern showdowns with Bedford vs Seymour followed by Jeffersonville vs Jennings County. In the first game, this was really all Bedford with Seymour making a few runs to stick in the game throughout. The two top performances were easily the two big men on both squads with BNL’s [player_tooltip player_id="963945" first="Jackson" last="Miracle"] and Seymour’s [player_tooltip player_id="1142146" first="Eli" last="Meyer"] both having just great games. Miracle dropped 13 points and was just perfect at getting to the right spot for easy dish-offs from his teammates. On the other end, Meyer had a double-double with his 12 points and his 11 aggressive rebounds. BNL won 52-38.

In Game 2 Jeffersonville routed Jennings County 57-39. The Red Devils’ offense was just so open as they did an outstanding job spreading the ball around with pretty much every key player getting involved. However, the top player of the night was easily Jeffersonville’s [player_tooltip player_id="926885" first="Brandon" last="Rayzer-Moore"] with his 16 points that he scored from pretty much everywhere. On the other end, Jennings County’s massive big man Jacob Vogel was the Panthers’ best player as there was really no answer for him down low. On Friday, Bedford will face New Albany while Jeffersonville takes on Floyd Central.

Sectional 8

In two completely different games, Hamilton Southeastern upset Fishers 44-40 while Westfield handled Zionsville 61-47 with a flurry of 3’s. In what was a battle of a first game, HSE came into this as the underdog but in a Sectional where upsets are common, the Royals came in and took it to the Tigers. Was not really a high scoring game but the leading scorer of the night was Fisher’s [player_tooltip player_id="870272" first="Bryce" last="Williams"] with his 12 points while on the winning side, HSE was led by [player_tooltip player_id="963900" first="Dalton" last="Retzner"] with his 11 points. As good as a win this was for HSE, they will need to play even better when they face Carmel on Friday.

The next game was not exactly as close as it should have been. The story of the night was easily the shooting performance from Westfield as they shot 66% from behind the arc. Westfield’s [player_tooltip player_id="870245" first="Cameron" last="Haffner"] nailed 6 threes that eventually led to his 18 points while his teammate, [player_tooltip player_id="870222" first="Braden" last="Smith"], nailed 5 threes that led to his stellar 23 points. [player_tooltip player_id="868255" first="Logan" last="Imes"] of Zionsville led the Eagles with 14 points. Westfield takes on Noblesville on Friday.

Southern 7

Sectional 7 saw the best individual performance from a player without question. In a crushing defeat, Marion senior [player_tooltip player_id="874110" first="Jalen" last="Blackmon"] dropped 55 points in what was his final game for the Giants. They were defeated by Lafayette Jeff 83-74 with top senior [player_tooltip player_id="783143" first="Brooks" last="Barnhizer"] leading the Bronchos with his fantastic 27 points. Other top players in this game were Jacob Collicatt with 19 points and [player_tooltip player_id="874137" first="Ashton" last="Beaver"] with 18 points. In the other game, Kokomo beat Logansport 53-48. So on Friday the second round games are set with Harrison taking on Lafayette Jeff and Kokomo vs McCutcheon in what should be two incredible games.
