Continue ReadingA-Train Oregon Magic has made some slight changes to their roster for this winter season and they recently put them on display in a game against one of Prolific Prep’s prep squads. It was a nip-and-tuck affair but in the end after two sudden death overtimes, A-Train Oregon Magic pulled out a 45-44 victory despite largely being out-sized by Prolific.
We received exclusive footage of the game and here are some of our impressions of the top performers from A-Train Oregon Magic.
Devon Malcolm Devon Malcolm 6'4" | SF South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 Butte Falls)
Malcolm was only the eighth guy on team to score in the game, but the 6-foot-4 swingman ended up leading the team in scoring by the end. The sophomore is unquestionably A-Train’s go-to guy and he scored all of the squad’s three points in the overtime periods. While he wasn’t scoring early, he clearly used his strength and athleticism to make an impact on the boards and on defense, where he was constantly holding his own against Prolific Prep’s bigger players. And when the points did come, Malcolm knocked down some threes and converted by drawing contact on some strong drives to the hoop.
Devin Baker (2022 Mountainside)
Baker tied for second in scoring honors with eight points, with six of those points coming from back-to-back threes early in the second half. Outside shooting is something we’ve been watching closely out of the 6-foot-4 swingman as his ability to slash to the basket and finish with athleticism has always been there. Seeing him knock down some open jumpers was indeed eye-opening and his ability to do so may result in him moving up in the rankings. Baker also looks as if he’s added some bulk to his lanky frame.
Junior Sleezer Junior Sleezer 6'2" | CG South Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 South Medford)
Sleezer also contributed eight points in the victory and the 6-foot-2 combo guard is a recent add to the program. He can play either guard spot, hit the catch-and-shoot jumper (he nailed two threes), as well as create off the dribble and help out at the point when needed. Sleezer is a pretty good athlete and has the body to help out on the boards and battle on the defensive end.
Bryce Dyer Bryce Dyer 6'5" | PF North Medford | 2022 State OR (2022 North Medford)
It wasn’t a big scoring night for Dyer – his sole bucket came from a spot-up three early in the first half – but where the 6-foot-5 forward made a difference was on the boards. He simply has a nose for the ball, especially on the offensive glass, and he understands the value of positioning, blocking out, and having a feel for where the ball is going off the rim. He often kept possessions alive on the offensive glass.
Malik Brown Malik Brown 6'0" | PG Tigard | 2023 State OR and Kalim Brown Kalim Brown 6'0" | CG Tigard | 2023 State OR (2023 Tigard)
The Brown twins didn’t rack up big numbers per se, but did what they usually do – bring plenty of energy on both ends and make plays. Malik finished with five points and a handful of assists while Kalim chipped in with four points. The brothers didn’t play on the floor much together.
