Montavious Myrick is a very good prospect that isn’t necessarily a household name. He’s a stretchy forward that can play inside and out. His three-point shot makes him a viable option on the wing. He likely would have to improve his ball skills to play full-time on the perimeter, but he’s mobile and his touch are intriguing. In the paint, Myrick plays above the rim. He has quality footwork on the low block and is a consistent rebounder and threat to catch lobs. Myrick is averaging 12.3 points, 9.4 rebounds an 2.3 blocks.
6-4 F Donte Colton – Newnan
Colton is an active forward that plays bigger than his size. He’s a springy athlete that can finish with dunks inside and can block shots and rebound defensively. He still may be a little raw offensively, but his effort makes him an important piece. Colton is averaging 7.7 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 2.3 blocks as Newnan is off to their best start in years at 12-1.
6-6 F Carrieun Mathis – South Paulding
A long wiry forward that can occasionally stretch the floor, Carrieun Mathis is a defensive presence with his rebounding and shot blocking. He will need to add some more weight to continue to be successful at the next level, but he has tools that can develop over time. Mathis spaces the floor and can beat his man off the dribble on straight-line drives when caught flatfooted. Carrieun needs to be accounted for on the offensive glass and can score on post touches.
6-4 PF Jahbori Raines – Lowndes
The athleticism of Jahbori Raines makes him play closer to 6-foot-7 than 6-foot-4. He explodes off the ground to gobble up rebounds and swat away shots. He can score inside by elevating over defenders for clean looks and can attack defenses off the dribble, blowing by opponents. Raines is a skillful finisher at the rim. Averaging 15.3 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 2.7 steals and 1.6 blocks, Raines is one of the most dynamic players in South Georgia. Adding a three-point shot could really lift his stock even more.
6-8 C Fred Spells – Portal
One of the most feared shot blockers in Class A-Public. Fred Spells’ numbers are down across the board this year but that’s because three key freshmen have stepped in and led Portal to a hot start. Spells is still an integral part as the anchor of the defense. He’s not much of an offensive threat outside of putbacks, but Spells uses his length and bounce to protect the rim at a high level. He’s averaging 5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game.
