These players had a great first day of competition and should only get better from here. Keep an eye out for the rest of my coverage from this event, and for these athletes to have a dominant upcoming senior campaign.
Stephen Mahler 6’5 2021 (HD Toros) John Jay High School
Stephen is a dominant force on the wing with a high shooting release and great confidence to pair with it. He is great at running with the ball in the open court, as well as taking the ball out of the triple threat or shot fake and getting to the hole. He has a soft touch on his jumpers which allows him to stretch the floor and put pressure on the defense. He finishes well around the rim for his size.
Jonas Carlisle Jonas Carlisle 6'3" | SG South San | 2021 State TX 6’3 2021 (HD Toros) South San High School
Jonas is an athletic wing with great ball control and a crafty ability to finish in traffic. He contorts his body well to avoid defenders and has an elite use of the hop step. He thrives in transition and loves to push and create for his teammates. He had impressive scoop layups that drew contact, much like James Harden does in the lane- sticking out his arms and inviting defenders to swipe at it, and then using his strength to power through and finish.
Jakobi Hardy 6’5 2021 (Arnold Elite) Hillcrest High School
Jakobi is an athletic wing who is also a dual-sport athlete in football as well. He moves very well for his size and finishes down low with ease. He has great drop step moves and other post moves that he can get to. On the defensive end, he is a monster, utilizing his length and aggressiveness to block easy attempts around the rim. Everyone seemed to have a problem scoring on him. I would like to see more sustained aggressiveness; he often is trailing plays that he could have affected. He has all the tools to be a successful player at the next level if he can improve his motor.
Thomas Worrich 6’3 2021 (Strength N Motion 2021) O’Connor High School
Thomas is an athletic combo guard who plays engaged on-ball defense and loves to run the floor and find weak spots in the defense. He spaces the floor well and knows when to cut and attack the defense around the rim. He has good ball skills with a pretty tight handle and an above-average ability to set up his teammates. He displayed some intelligent touch passes and extra passes to open shooters that resulted in easy looks within their offense.
Adhurim Emerllahu 6’5 2021 (Strength N Motion 2021 Red) Clark High School
Adhurim is a lanky wing with tremendous potential to be effective at the next level. He has great body control and is a special player when he gets going in transition toward the rim. He has an array of post moves that he explodes out of to get to the rim very well. I would like to see more confidence in his jumper and ability to stretch the floor. Once defenders truly fear him from outside, he will dominate the game, blowing by defenders who come out to hard to contest.
Angelo Samudio 6’3 2021 (FAOT All Stars) McCollum High School
Angelo is an athletic wing who thrives on getting to the rim and drawing contact. He is very confident with a live dribble. He is an energetic and relentless player who thrives at bullying defenders in the post. He has quick feet and decent speed to run the floor but is dominant when he gets to the rim. He is good on the glass, having to play major forward minutes for his team, and impressed with his ability to box out and clean up the glass.
Angel Salazar 6’4 2021 (The Ville) Memorial High School
Angel is an undersized forward who is great at using his strong frame to get better leverage in the post, set crushing screens, and box out to secure rebounds. His strong set is definitely screening, he is intelligent at knowing which side to screen to open up a driving lane, he is quick at opening up towards the rim and finishes well on either side of the rim. I would like to see continued development in the high post, a more confident jumper behind the arc and in the mid-range as well. He should focus on having a playstyle like Nikola Jokic, a skilled passing big who can dominate on the block if switched onto a smaller defender, yet skilled enough to create for himself and others on the offensive end.
Kye Deville 6’4 2021 (H-Town Gliders) Cy-Fair High School
Kye is an athletic guard who plays with great size and skill. He has incredibly lanky arms that he uses very well on the defensive end of the floor. He has good defensive instincts and can guard positions one through three. He has good jumping ability which allows him to finish well at the rim, turn away shots and grab rebounds well for a combo guard.
