Sidwell Friends vs. H.D. Woodson Scrimmage Notebook
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Sidwell Friends traveled to H.D. Woodson on Tuesday night for a scrimmage with the Warriors. The Quakers, led by Penn commit Jelani Williams and junior Saddiq Bey, swept all four quarters from a strong Woodson squad led by nationally touted ’18 guard Kiyon Boyd and sharpshooting junior Derquan Washington. Below, along with the top five plays, are some notes from the scrimmage.
IMPROVED SADDIQ BEY GETS IT DONE ON BOTH ENDS
With the score tied in the second quarter, Saddiq Bey decided to take over. The 6-foot-6 junior wing authored a 6-0 run initiated by a steal and dunk. Bey was very alert defensively where he showed good potential and instincts. Bey’s biggest improvements, however, have come on the offensive end where he is able to score from all levels and consistently create easy looks for his teammates.

ADDITIONAL NOTES
Available seniors Ross Young and Ace Stallings did an excellent job anchoring the interior for the Quakers with their ability to protect the rim and secure the boards. Both bigs also showed the ability to step out and make shots from the perimeter when left unattended to.
Washington showcased a quick release and in the gym range on his jumper.Derquan Washington can flat out score the basketball. Whether he’s raining down threes from the volleyball line or driving into the lane where he is adept at soliciting contact, Washington has a knack for finding ways to put the ball in the basket.
The guard play of Sidwell, led by Penn commit Jelani Williams alongside unsigned senior Abass Salah and sophomore Jason Gibson, was rock solid. All three guards demonstrated impressive vision and unselfishness along with the ability to handle pressure and dish accurate passes from a variety of angles.
Kiyon Boyd is a physical specimen. Check #2 of the top plays. Gotta love the hustle from a guy who is listed at 6’5″ 215.
