Here are some of the players who looked good from 15U play on Saturday:
Patrick Bath, D1 Minnesota
Bath has had a strong summer with D1 Minnesota and he looked excellent Saturday, showing a blend of physical tools and developing skill. At 6-foot-8 or so, Bath is well-built and plays with a physicality that you don’t see a whole lot anymore from bigs who can also shoot. He sets hard screens, he rolls hard to the rim and he crashes the glass, oftentimes creating extra opportunities for his team through effort. And he shouldn’t be classified as a floor-spacer at this point, but he shows glimpses of being a very good perimeter shooting big, as he’s got a soft touch and good form out to the 3-point line.
Braden Barger Braden Barger 6'5" | SF Chanhassen | 2023 State MN , MN Crossfire
Barger looks like he’s got some potential to be a really solid all around player. The Chaska swingman has great size (6-foot-4) and a combination of skills and athleticism to score in a variety of ways and guard up or down a lineup. He’s aggressive getting into the paint and has the ability to finish with a floater, pull up jumper or through contact.
Mack Schmidt, MN Crossfire
The talent well in Jordan isn’t drying up and Schmidt looks like a guy who could really contribute in the very near future. He’s just solid in a lot of areas. He can shoot it from deep – off the catch or in pullup fashion – get to the paint, finish over length and he’s an advanced playmaker. He’s not the biggest guy, but he’s tough on the defensive end too, routinely putting pressure on opposing ballhandlers.
Christian Batchlor, D1 MN Prospects – Laymon
Batchlor was excellent Saturday for D1 Prospects, showcasing a strong pullup jumper and the ability to elevate and finish in traffic. Batchlor isn’t the biggest or strongest guy on the court, but his energy and effort throughout play never waned, and he just seems to have a knack for being in the right place where he can make an impact.
Khalif Bettis Khalif Bettis 6'6" | SF Burnsville | 2023 State MN , MN Chill Elite
Bettis came out like a ball of fire in Chill Elite’s first game Saturday, attacking the rim and aggressively looking for his shot. He’s a strong, explosive forward who plays through contact better than a lot of guys his age. He’s a solid finisher around the rim and showed some signs of being able to stretch the floor too.
Kayden Rodrick, MN Lace Up
Rodrick had a lot of good moments Saturday for MN Lace Up, showcasing solid footwork and post moves, along with the ability to elevate and finish over length. The Zumbrota product did a good job on both backboards, rebounding in and out of his area at a high rate, and his defensive intensity was a definite positive for his team.
Cham Okey, MN Lightning Emge
MN Lightning Emge had a rough first game Saturday, but Okey was a definite bright spot on the offensive end of the floor. He knocked down several 3-pointers, got into the paint and hit a floater, got to the rim and scored in traffic. He cut well off the ball, finding gaps in the defense where he could make a play. He’s got length to be a disruptive defender but doesn’t use it yet – I would bet on the Austin coaching staff being able to get that out of him.
