Fall preseason basketball is in full swing, and with that comes weekends filled with several preseason showcases. This past Saturday, the Panthers Basketball Club hosted The Main Event— a one day event held at Lyndhurst Middle School in Lyndhurst, NJ, another opportunity for prospects to continue to settle into their roles ahead of the high school season while at the same time featuring several intriguing matchups between several of New Jersey's top programs, highlighted by a number of prospects from the Panther program. With plenty to take away from Saturday's action, let's take a closer look at some of the players who stood out.

[player_tooltip player_id='2833843' first='Owen' last='Wucherpfennig']'s continued physical and athletic development as of late has directly translated into consistent impact through his consistent activity and motor. Wucherpfennig's relentless presence on the interior stood out immediately and remained evident all throughout Bergen Catholic's matchup against East Orange— generating countless second chance possessions on the offensive glass, sprinting the rim line hard in the open floor for easy finishes in transition, winning rebounding battles with his lengthy frame on the defensive end of the floor coupled with anchoring the paint with extremely disciplined rim protection to wall up against attempts at the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id='3665419' first='Jace' last='Almonte'] presents an encouraging combination of positional size, scoring efficiency, and versatility on the wing and he made another strong case for why he appears capable of stepping into meaningful minutes immediately, even as just a freshman. Almonte showed that his impact extends well beyond his shot making, using his length coupled with his anticipation in the passing lanes and positioning off the ball to generate defensive stops before turning those plays into rim pressure on the other end. Finding his footing as the action went along, Almonte's offensive production, in the ways he attacked off the catch remained impressive— confidently stepping into outside shots with smooth rhythm and strong balance mixed with downhill attacks in PnR actions.

[player_tooltip player_id='3657662' first='Layne' last='Pawlowski'] brings an intriguing combination of a lengthy frame, feel off the catch, and two way versatility that allows him to seamlessly fit into a variety of lineups. Pawlowski plays with a blend of simplicity and efficiency, consistently making the right read without overcomplicating possessions— most effective making quick decisions off the catch, confidently stepping into outside shots with rhythm and strong balance, attacking closeouts to get downhill, and moving the ball when the advantage wasn't there. Another layer to Pawlowski's impact that stood out was his ability to initiate offense in transition himself, securing rebounds and immediately pushing the ball up the floor to create scoring opportunities on the other end.

Perimeter shooting remains [player_tooltip player_id='2305481' first='Jaylen' last='Lewis']' calling card and the primary driver of his offensive impact. Most effective playing without the ball, Paradise showed an increased comfort and confidence from beyond the arc as he came out firing early— sprinting to the corners in transition, sliding to vacant wing spots to replace driving guards, stepping into spot up looks off the catch on the wing and slot areas, and even hunting his shot deep in the corner for advantageous drive and kick threes generated by paint touching guards off dribble penetration.

Providing an immediate boost upon entering the game, [player_tooltip player_id='2504891' first='Sean' last='Forbes'] was impressive in stepping right in and providing extremely productive and reliable guard play in the minutes he was provided— finding rim runners when looking to create offense in transition, anticipation in the passing lanes to turn steals into easy finishes, and creating drive and kick threes for perimeter shooters when penetrating the defense and drawing multiple defenders.
