The escalation came as a result of some impressive performances from the athletic 6-foot-6 swingman from Thurston, especially in the late summer and the fall. The junior simply balled out and people noticed - including college programs including one who recently stepped up to give Hill his first scholarship offer.

Catching up with Hill, he noted how things really amped up at the end of club basketball season. "As a lot of people know, I switched teams to Perseverance in July, and I think that was really just a good move," Hill said. "The coaches helped me out a lot, so I think that made a big difference for me. There's always room to improve and for me, a lot of it was working on point guard stuff, taking the ball off the court with pressure, and just learning how to handle all of that. I think continuing to develop every other part of my game as well, so I can come in and be the best I can be."

This fall, Hill has really been able to showcase his stuff at a number of camps and clinics. He stood out at the PrepHoops Expo, numerous [program_tooltip program_id='3645834' first='Meadow' last='Park'] Basketball events, and recently at The Spotlight Invitational that was held at Clackamas High School. And this past weekend, Hill continued to shine playing with an all-star squad called Oregon's Finest which competed against prep schools up at the Seattle Hoop Summit. It was an event where Division I coaches could attend and not long after the event concluded, Hill had earned his first scholarship offer - from the University of Portland.

"It's surreal - I've worked my whole life for this and it's crazy that it's really starting to pan out," Hlil said. "I've dreamed about it since I was a kid so it's crazy and it coming of UP too is awesome. It's a really strong academic school and one that's close to home, it's crazy for sure. It's more motivation, really just getting to see the hard work pay off and know that my dream's in reach is an amazing feeling and if anything it's pushed me to work harder."

While it's unquestionably exciting for Hill it's still early in the recruiting process for him. He notes that he's also had contact with Austin Peay, UC San Diego, and Western Oregon, and South Dakota - where former Thurston standout Joe White is an assistant head coach - has been in touch. "I'm just looking for somewhere I can go be me, somewhere I can go play my game and get on the court and do what I do and show people that I belong there," Hill said.

The 2026-27 season lies ahead for Hill, who will ascend into a leading role with all-state wing Lucas Labounty off to college. He's ready for all the challenges ahead and has high expectations for himself. "I expect to be the best player on the court at all times, and I think that's what I am," Hill said. "I think no matter who's in front of me, I'm going to go dominate them. So for Thurston, I think we have the team. We have the ability. We can go win a championship. And that's what we're going to be chasing every day in practice is just going hard and doing what we do and showing people that we're the team to beat."
