The all-around 6-foot-5 forward from Tualatin used this past off-season to enhance his skills for his senior year and got plenty of recruiting exposure in the process. It led to his first scholarship offer and could an upcoming visit equate into a college decision.

"I think the offseason went well," Olvera said. I was able to work on stuff that I didn't use in the past season in a different role and I think I'm stepping into like a different role this upcoming year. So I definitely got to work on some shooting, some off the dribble stuff, some playmaking stuff. I definitely think it was a good offseason for me to work on all of that."

The opportunity to show off the work he put in expanding his game paid off. Playing in front of a college coaches throughout the spring and summer, the improvement was noticed. As a result he's been talking to college coaches at all levels and picked up an offer from Seattle Pacific. In fact, after visiting the Falcons program earlier this fall he's going to be headed up there again.

"I'm going on another visit to Seattle Pacific this upcoming weekend," Olvera said. "I definitely like the location - it's not like deep in downtown Seattle, but it's like right outside. And then the coaches - I love the coaches. Great energy and it just seems like a really good culture, like, like a family, almost like Tualatin."

"There's definitely a chance I like commit - I've been talking about it," Olvera said. "You know, it's my only offer as of right now and it's a great school. I would love to go there."

The visit will give Olvera a further opportunity to investigate what he's look for in a college program and school. "I'd say culture, for sure, I want it to be more like a family," Olvera said. "I don't want it to be like a business. I want it to be like more like I get to go there type of feel. And so I definitely love that they have that type of feeling, and also just kind of like close. It's not super far away and so my mom could still come to every game. I still get to see family and visit and stuff."

"I just like the whole campus culture as well," Olvera said. "Like it's not like a huge school so I don't have to worry about like big, huge classes or nothing. So I definitely like that as well."

As the process plays out, Olvera certainly hasn't forgotten about this upcoming season at Tualatin. The Timberwolves may be defending champs but they're not resting on their laurels. "Just to continue what we did last year - it's definitely going to be harder because everybody's going to be trying out to, you know, get the defending state champions and stuff," Olvera said. "So we are definitely just to continue that habit of excellence and make sure every practice, like every practice, every game is like the best we could be."

"I mean it's easy to say that we want to go out there and win another state championship, but I definitely think we got to take it practice by practice, game by game," Olvera continued. But that's the end goal is to win a state championship, another one, go back to back."
