October is upon us. KHSAA Basketball season starts on October 15th and this season looks to be pretty open. There is so much talent in the bluegrass state right now and this season is shaping up to be a great one. It's time for my annual "Top 5 Preview" where I break down the top 5 teams and college prospects in each region. These are the top 5 college prospects, not the top 5 high school players right now.

Top 5 Teams:

McCracken County - The roster is loaded with talent and has a little bit of everything. After missing out on Rupp the last two seasons, the Mustangs should be favored to get back there in March.

Marshall County - Outside of [player_tooltip player_id='2127277' first='Matthew' last='Langhi'], it remains to be seen what the Marshals' roster looks like. But Langhi is the best player in the region and is capable of getting last year's champions back to Rupp.

St. Mary - Coach Denson has quietly assembled a deep roster with some quality talent on it. Illinois transfers [player_tooltip player_id='2630011' first='Jude' last='Harmon'] and Silas Kreuter bring more depth and Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id='2851847' first='Griffin' last='Mayes'] already has multiple D1 offers.

Carlisle County - [player_tooltip player_id='2046736' first='Wyatt' last='Rickard'] is a problem for everyone in the region. Past that, the Comets need a couple of their 6 other Seniors to provide quality scoring pop.

Mayfield - It's a youth movement in Mayfield as Coach Croft is going to rely heavily on two Sophomores this season. [player_tooltip player_id='2935091' first='Gabe' last='Morris'] and [player_tooltip player_id='2381498' first='Brycen' last='Eubanks'] are going to be two big pieces for the Mayfield roster.

Top 5 College Prospects:

[player_tooltip player_id='2127277' first='Matthew' last='Langhi'], Marshall County - The best all around player in the region. Already committed to Bellarmine.

[player_tooltip player_id='2529551' first='Aaron' last='Adams'], McCracken County - He could be as good or better than Langhi, long term. Aaron added multiple D1 offers this summer and has the tools to be a big time player.

[player_tooltip player_id='2851847' first='Griffin' last='Mayes'], St. Mary - Griffin earned his first 2 D1 offers in recent months and is the engine that makes St. Mary go. Their season success likely hinges on how well Griffin plays.

[player_tooltip player_id='2046736' first='Wyatt' last='Rickard'], Carlisle County - A stretch big who will sign at the D1 level when he chooses his college. Rickard is a versatile offensive player and a good rebounder.

[player_tooltip player_id='2381498' first='Brycen' last='Eubanks'], Mayfield - Eubanks struggled to stay healthy as a Freshman but he spent his spring and summer earning multiple D1 offers on the AAU and camp circuit. Buy stock now!

Most Likely Mr. Basketball Finalist:

[player_tooltip player_id='2127277' first='Matthew' last='Langhi'], Marshall County
