The New Class AAA Coaches and the Player they will help

Sand was the head coach at St. Thomas Academy I believe for two seasons going 18-11 and 19-10 before taking the BSM assistant athletic director job last year. Sand was then named head coach at BSM after this past spring/summer in a move that many predicted.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph {"placeholder":"Add evaluation here...","className":"text-gray-700"} --> <p class="text-gray-700">At STA, Luke Dobbs and Lars Osteraas were really good players with Sand at guard. Watts is a quick, heady playmaker that scored 16.4 points a game last winter and we think he can have a big senior season for BSM and Sand. Holsman has been an assistant for GR for several seasons and he's been working with youth association for a really long time. Holsman knows these players and knows this team well. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>GR always has multi-year standouts and they have two in Wegwerth and [player_tooltip player_id='3679246' first='Logan' last='McNear'] who had great sophomore years and have big years ahead. McKenzie has worked at St. Paul Academy, Roseville, and Eagan and is likely best know for the SPA trip to state as well as one of the greatest upsets in state tournament history when Eagan beat Park Center a few years ago. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2887249' first='Brody' last='Schmidt'] scored five points a game for the Pioneers last year and was really good for the Titans 15u squad this spring/summer. Nick Boone. Boone was the Mayo b-squad coach and varsity assistant in previous years. A very good younger level coach that has been beloved by the [program_tooltip program_id='2075852' first='Spartans' last=''], he now takes over the KM job after an odd firing from last year. He has a good group to work with.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2385464' first='Noah' last='Shubert'] is one of those good young players Boone has a chance to lead. Noah scored 13 points per game last year and shot 39 percent at the arc. Pierce has been teaching in St. Paul for years and previously coached at St. Agnes. A 27 year old head coach who was an assistant and teacher in the district in previous years. Schoborg is a 2027 Rocori graduate who played at SJU. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='2917788' first='Nolan' last='Kron'] averaged nearly 12 points a game last season as a freshman and moves into his sophomore year as one of the top returning scorers in the CLC. Sam did a really nice job coaching St. Paul Humboldt to more wins than anybody expected and now he takes over the Packer job. SSP has had talent for years but they have not been able to put things together chemistry wise. Esboldt did a great job of that at Humboldt, SSP is next up. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Williams averaged 15.3 points and 5.4 rebounds a game for Esboldt at Humboldt last season and hopes to do something similar this year as a senior for the Packers. A former Maple River player that has been coaching at St. Peter as an assistant for five seasons. Ethan is another young coach in his later 20s trusted to take over a program. Ethan is an elementary teacher at St. Peter.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Owen is one of the top up and coming players in the state. He averaged 18 points a game last year and then had a great 17u season with the Lightning. Really good hire for STA, Eppen was a really good coach for St. Olaf for years and has coached in high school at Burnsville and NHREG in past years with success.
