Kentucky Expo: Team 7 Standouts

The Prep Hoops Kentucky Expo brought out talented players from across Kentucky to compete in Louisville for an action packed day of basketball with prospects from the classes of 2027-2029 competing. In this article I'll break down my team 7 standouts.    Shehan had a busy weekend as he was named as a standout at both the Prep Hoops Expo on Sunday and NextUpRecruits camp on Saturday. The strong wing is a crafty finisher with either hand at the rim and has some playground style flair with the ball in his hands as he can really break the defense down and find creative ways to score the basketball. With his combination of flashiness as a driver and finisher, a strong frame and relentless downhill driving mentality, Shehan was one of the most productive players in the gym on Sunday.     One of the more acrobatic finishers at the rim that I saw all day, Couch was able to hang and hit layups to avoid shot blockers at the rim. A slashing wing guard, Couch was at his best when he was able to get all the way to the rim. A right hand dominant finisher, Couch was doing what he could to get back to his preferred hand at the rim. I also liked that Couch boxed out a few times to help secure defensive rebounds, something he'll need to do at the high school level this winter as well. Strong overall performance from Couch on Sunday.     Harville knocked down a couple time and space 3-pointers in the games I watched as he provided nice floor spacing for his team from the wing position. With solid height and length, Harville got a couple contested rebounds in traffic and could also use his height to shoot over smaller defenders. Harville also has a high release point on his jumper, making it tough for shorter players to contest his shot. Late in the first five on five game for his team, Harville hit a 3-pointer to tie the game late as his team went on to win in overtime thanks to that bucket. Clutch play by Harville in a big moment.     Wheeldon showed some ability with the ball in his hands to attack off the dribble and create shots for himself and his teammates. Liking the spin move on his drives, that move usually allowed him the space to shoot or set up a teammate with a pass. Wheeldon also worked hard against taller players in the paint, fronting and boxing out in the paint. Solid overall effort by Wheeldon on Sunday.     Maples was one of the most talented prospects in the gym on Sunday and had some bright perimeter scoring flashes. Maples is a tough shot maker and in overtime of his teams first five on five game, Maples took over by scoring the first six points of overtime to help his team secure the win. A microwave shooter from the wing, Maples can just flat out get a bucket. I'll be looking for Maples to use his physical tools to get blocks, steals and offensive rebounds when I see him in the winter for Woodford County as impact in those areas would take his game to the next level.
