Shehan had a busy weekend as he was named as a standout at both the Prep Hoops Expo on Sunday and NextUpRecruits camp on Saturday. The strong wing is a crafty finisher with either hand at the rim and has some playground style flair with the ball in his hands as he can really break the defense down and find creative ways to score the basketball. With his combination of flashiness as a driver and finisher, a strong frame and relentless downhill driving mentality, Shehan was one of the most productive players in the gym on Sunday.

Though few things may be guaranteed in life, John’s ability to get to the cup certainly was at the KY Expo this past Sunday. Changing pace and direction, finishing with both hands at a high level, absorbing bumps, altering his shot midair… he did a little bit of whatever was needed to get a bucket. His size and skillset at his position served him well in creating mismatches that he capitalized on throughout the event.

Unless my eyes are deceiving me, John has noticeably stretched out and toned up over the summer. His craftiness as a scorer and shooting abilities are well known but the work he’s appeared to put in on his body could take his game to a new level. Not only is he now playing above the rim but he also looks to be moving quicker and at a smoother pace. Excited to see him put it all together at the KY Expo tomorrow.

A big guard who has exceled as a wing shooter, Shehan has been having a big AAU season scoring the ball. Adair is going to need to replace a lot from last year’s squad and John is the most logical player to step up and fill that void. With the ability to heat up quickly, Shehan could be a big time stock riser over the next month and heading into the season.

One of the breakout performers of the camp, Shehan was going off in 5 on 5 action. The lefty wing guard has a smooth jumper off the catch or pulling up and has the confidence to just rise up over smaller defenders. One of the more talented isolation creators all day, Shehan can ask for a clear out and create something. In an organized setting, Shehan’s spot-up shooting and ability to finish through contact are some of the more valuable skills he brings to the table.

Woah, can Shehan fill it up. This lefty can light up the scoreboard from anywhere on the court. Even though he’s 6’4, he does most of his damage from the perimeter and is an exceptional 3-point shooter. His size helps him on the glass as he competes well on the boards. What I appreciate the most about John’s game is that it doesn’t feel like he’s forcing anything. He will make a 1-more pass to a teammate that has a better look and doesn’t need to shoot a bunch, to make an impact on the scoresheet.

Adair County has a rebuild in the near future after graduating the bulk of the back to back region champions. Shehan should move into a big role this summer and his play on the NXT circuit looks like he may be ready for the opportunity. John can shoot it but he’s becoming a more well rounded player and had some big scoring games this weekend.

One thing I learned about Shehan on Saturday was that if he was open, he was letting it fly. As the day wore on, John started hitting more shots and ended up with some impressive performances in the 5 on 5 portion. He could be a good player long term for an Adair team that will graduate a ton after this season.
