Gems in the Utah Top 50 League

We are always looking for gems, and the Utah Top 50 League has provided a few players who have played well and have shown enough skill to be considered "Gems"    When you first look at Nye, the first question you ask yourself is, who is this kid?   Nye has no stats entering his senior season as a varsity player, and he grew from 6'7 to 6'9, and he plays with a nice motor. Right off the bat, you can see his fundamentals: he gets low, pushes people off the block, and tracks rebounds well. He runs the floor and is more agile than you might think for a big kid.   Nye rebounds and can push the ball. In the paint he provides a solid post presence and he is a willing screener. Nye is a gem that is still raw but has the foundation and fundamentals you might want in a 6'9 kid.   Catch Victor Nye playing with the Butte Daredevils in the Utah Top 50.     Farmington has had a lot of solid guards come out of that program, and with so many good guards, sometimes a few can't be on the court as much as others. Bingham has made the most of his time, and he is a player with good size off the ball at 6'3, plus a very fluid shot beyond the arc. Bingham moves well off the ball, and he finds pockets where passers can find him, and he can get to his catch-and-shoot. He is a player with next-level shooting ability. He defends well, and he runs the lanes very well.   Sawyer Bingham is playing with the Indiana Alley Cats in the Utah Top 50     The more and more I watch Milbourn, the more and more I like his all-around game. His ability to be a threat and be impactful on offense is always a given, but his defense has improved, and you can see him defend the length of the floor more. He is turning defenders and being a pest on the ball. He is playing with active hands, and he is getting in lanes and disrupting the offensive flow with his defense.   Keep an eye on him at Riverton, he is set to have a big year.   [player_tooltip player_id='2446881' first='Carter' last='Milbourn'] is playing for the Indiana Alley Cats in the Utah Top 50     Atem is ranked currently at #11, and regardless of whether he moves up or down the rankings, this kid can play. If some NJCAA JUCO can steal him they will have a future D1 kid on their hands. It is more likely that he could find a higher-level school to take him because he is a gem. He is only 6'5 but he plays more like he is 6'7. You can tell that he is used to defending taller players, but he is a lockdown defender at the wing position. That is one quality that could turn the heads of coaches is defense and his athleticism.   Atem can play above the rim but he is skilled off the bounce and he shoots the ball well in the midrange and he has spots out there.   Atem is playing for Fort Wayne Fury in the Utah Top 50.     Afridi is a gem who plays on a team that has talent, and he is going to come up big for them this coming season. He rebounds out of his zone, he defends the ball, and he might be better off the ball, as he anticipates plays and can make things happen with his defense. On the offensive side of things, Afridi shoots the ball, and he can hit from beyond the arc. Really like what I saw from him. He has next-level size and talent.     I am a big [player_tooltip player_id='2858414' first='Brek' last='Griffin'] fan. He should not be ranked so low, so expect that to change. He does play for a smaller school, but he plays for a historically good high school that has produced some next-level talent out in Emery County. You can see that he has the strength to post up as a strong guard, but he can handle and shoot the ball. Griffin runs the floor, and he is athletic. With his skill set to do it all at the high school level, that should turn heads at the collegiate level. Only a junior, but he has a shot to make some noise this year.     Beck will suit up and play with Orem this coming season, and with a lot of room in the backcourt at Orem these days, Beck is going to fill in nicely. He has a good pace to the way he plays, and he shoots the ball very well. He can get by defenders, and he finds open players with his creating ability. Look for Beck to be a tempo-pushing guard who helps his team in the scoring column as well as the assist column.     Duncan is a "GEM," and he is a player who can knock down shots. He can knock them down in transition; he can knock them down off the dribble and coming off of screens and movement. He is a big-time threat. He might be a little taller than 6'0 as he shoots over players, and a bad contested shot is good luck for Duncan.     Hammer might be one of the go to players for Skyline and if he can play ina free-floe offense like this platform he is going to find open spots in the perimeter and him being the good shooter that he is he is going to bury them from beyond the arc. If you run him off the line, he is going to get to the rim.     Hansen is another gem. With his strength and athleticism, he can be a solid 3 at the next level. He can defend, and he is solid off the ball, rotating over to contest shots with his leaping ability. He is an active player on offense, moving and cutting, and he creates space with movement for himself and for his teammates. Impressed with his upside and potential.
