I drove out to Spalding this past Sunday to catch up some high level bump between local HS and prep teams with a few out-of-town groups testing their mettle against local squads as we gear up for another season. The event was a great opportunity to see some fun cross matchups between the local leagues that we don't usually get to see during the season. In this article, we'll dive into

-James had a phenomenal afternoon for Bridgeport in a marquee matchup with DeMatha as a movement shooter that constantly found gaps in the defense to fire away from deep. Love the confidence to take some of the off-balance jumpers coming off of pindowns or behind screens that he chose to reject to get off another look from deep. Despite the fact that he drilled eight (8!!) threes, he remained an aggressive driver and did a great job of facilitating to teammates in the halfcourt.

-My first time seeing David play after hearing a ton about his consistency last season at the JV level. David is a confident shooter off the catch, attacks closeouts effectively from the wings, chips in effectively on the glass, and can guard either guard spot for his team. Love the arc and consistency on his jumper as a prospect that shoots the same shot each time. David also plays with a poise and aggression that you usually don't see out of an underclassmen, fully expect him to make a name for himself this season as a key piece for a Mustangs team looking to return to the state championship game.

-The rhythm and feel continue to impress for Jones as a prospect that is understanding some of the advanced nuances as the game has slowed down for him over the past summer as a full-time starter. Jones understands the importance of waiting for the screen to arrive and how to manipulate defenders with his eyes to sell one direction or the other. Jones knocked down four 3s, used that scoring gravity to threw several entry passes for easy buckets, and is timing his defensive stunts to come up with more steals and less fouls to keep him on the floor for much longer for a Stags team that will need his shooting/scoring this season.

-Jagne looks comfortable in new threads with the Colts as guard that can guard 1-3 pretty comfortably for this team. Previously just a set shooter, Jagne is now proving comfortable hitting movement 3s or hitting shots off the bounce-- even drawing foul contact on two different plays beyond the arc at key moments in the game. He uses his length to be a disruptive force at the defensive end of the floor and is falling for shot fakes much less frequently to keep his man in front at all times.

-Franklin's development is continuing nicely in new threads with Potomac as a smooth shooter that can knock down shots from all 3 levels of the floor for his team. Franklin curled pretty smoothly around screens to knock down turn and shoot jumpers at the elbows, hit two open 3s, and is much more comfortable attacking the glass or taking defenders off the bounce this season. The past season with O'Connell helped him adjust to the speed of the HS game and I continue to come away impressed with Franklin's ability to assimilate well within any team.
