Fresno, CA - This past Saturday, September 12th, I attended Day 1 of its annual two day event that wrapped up on Sunday, September 13th. The event featured teams from the Fresno/Clovis area, as well as Sacramento, Elk Grove, Selma, and Madera. I arrived for the start of games on day 1 and stayed until halftime of the final game of the day, as I had to get home. This article takes a look at 7 standout wings and forwards from the Shootout, with a blend from classes 2027 to 2029 (seniors to sophomores), and will be followed by articles that look at top lead guards and guard/wing/slashers. In this article you will find the following information: the player's name, height, player position, current school they are attending, and the stats I kept from the event. We begin this article with a look at [player_tooltip player_id='2136801' first='Seve' last='Archuleta'].

The 6-foot-7 power forward has moves to score in the post, can space the floor from beyond the arc, and is active on the glass. Archuleta highlighted his all around game in Clovis North's two games on Saturday, as he would have a solid stat-line in his first game, with 7 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, followed by a strong showing of 16 points, connecting on a pair of threes, to go with 7 rebounds and 2 steals in his second game to hold down the post for the Broncos. Archuleta has good foot-work, back-to-the-basket moves to get space from his defender, with the up-and-under, spin-move, shoulder-fake into the drop-step, and has good touch on the mid-post jumper or on shots at the basket. Archuleta moves well off the ball, gets to the top of the key, and is effective with the 3-ball off the catch to pull his defender away from the basket, opening up the paint and lanes to attack. He is relentless on the glass, has nice touch on shots off the miss, or can muscle through contact at the cup, limits opponents to single shot possessions, outlets the ball quickly, and gets up the court for easy catch and score opportunities, seals his defender off nicely with timely dives out of the pick and roll action, and will be one of the top impact transfers in the Section.

The 6-foot-6 power forward controls the paint, dominates the boards, finds openings around the basket for easy catch and score opportunities, and does a great job of playing to his strengths and within his skill set. After a great showing at the recent Central Cali Prospect Preview Showcase, Bradford looked even more assertive on Day 1 of the Clovis West Nike Fall Shootout, going for 13 points and 7 rebounds in a two-point loss to Sheldon, followed by an 8 point first half against Franklin, which was the last game of the first day and I left at halftime. Bradford boxes out fundamentally to secure the boards on both ends, gets easy points off the missed shots, outlets the ball quickly to get up the court for the transition points, has solid footwork in the post, good use of the spin-move, up-and-under, drop-step, and short-porch jumper to score within 15 feet of the basket, and makes good reads from the top of the key to cutting teammates. Bradford has good timing and quick bounce to block or alter shots in the paint, as well as the strides to close out on perimeter shooters.

The 6-foot-5 wing/forward is an athletic and bouncy player that is a force around the basket on both ends, is a high-level rim protector, a versatile defender, and excels in the open court. Castro showed his two-way impact on Day 1 of the Clovis West Nike Fall event, going for 6 points and 3 blocks in a tough loss to Sheldon in overtime, and that was with limited time in the first half due to foul trouble, followed by a 6 point half in the game against Franklin of Elk Grove. Castro has a massive wingspan, quick leaping ability to get off the ground, has the timing, instincts, and length to be a great rim protector and shot altering presence in the paint, the lateral agility to close out and contest perimeter shots, active hands, quick movement, and awareness to deflect entry passes, jump passing lanes, or poke the ball out to get out and push the ball in the open court, where he has some dazzling dunks in transition. Castro has good hands and touch on shots around the basket, uses the spin-move, up-and-under, drop-step, and fade-away middy to get open in tight windows around the basket, has the handles to create off the perimeter, and is tough to stop when he gets downhill with a head of steam, with the strength to score through contact down the lane.

The 6-foot-6 forward excels in the open court, is a versatile defender that can hold up in the post, as well as off the wing, and has touch around the basket. Johnson had a strong showing in the Bengals win over Clovis North in the first big game of the Shootout, as he would finish with 9 points and 5 rebounds to help his team get the overtime win. Johnson has a long wingspan, good lateral quickness, and the timing to block shots around the basket, the agility to close out on perimeter shooters, deflects entry passes, and jumps passing lanes to turn defense to offense. Johnson is solid on the glass, gets points off the put-backs, limits opponents to single shot possessions, looks to outlet the ball quickly off the glass and get up the court, where he releases and uses his strides to get ahead of the defense. Gets open by finding the dunker spot, back-door cuts, and the top of the restricted area to catch and score in close proximity.

The 6-foot-5 power forward is a beast on the boards, gets points off missed shots routinely, and is close to a double double almost every time I see him play. Lee had a monster game on the glass in the win over Clovis North, with 6 points and 10 rebounds, and showed that he is the focal point for Central East in the paint. Lee has good footwork, moves to score in tight windows around the basket, using the up-and-under, the drop-step, or his physical build to bully through contact at the basket, is effective with the mid-post jumper, and releases the ball in a timely fashion to push the ball up the court. Lee has good hands and soft touch on shots around the basket, has the court vision to make good reads to players from the top of the key or from the low-block to players cutting off the ball, and seals his man off nicely to get open looks on the dive out of the pick and roll action.

The 6-foot-9 forward is athletic, lengthy, and a skilled player that can operate in the paint, as well as create off the wing, is a high-level rim protector, and can space the floor with the jumper. Parker, a transfer from McClatchy, brings a serious interior presence for the talented and deep Huskies of Sheldon, and it looked great in the first half against Clovis West, taking a 20-point lead before the Golden Eagles clawed back to for overtime before the Huskies pulled out the 2 point win. Parker would go for 9 points and 10 points respectively in his two games on Day 1, including a great battle with [player_tooltip player_id='2136801' first='Seve' last='Archuleta'] of Clovis North. Parker has a massive wingspan, good timing on the jump, and the awareness to block shots in the paint, from the weakside, as well as the lateral footspeed to close out and alter perimeter shots, deflects entry passes to the post, and jumps passing lanes to get out and push the pace of play in the open court. Parker has nice footwork and moves to create space and score in the paint, using the spin-move, up-and-under, drop-step, and shoulder-fake to get open looks, the handles to create off the wing or from the top of the key, is accurate with the middy off the bounce from the elbows or the baseline, and moves fluidly off the ball to get open looks off the catch for the 3-ball to space the floor. Parker will be a major addition for Sheldon and they look like one of the top 5 to 6 teams in NorCal heading into the Fall portion of the calendar.

The 6-foot-3 wing/slasher is agile, lengthy, and plays with a great motor. Walker made the move from Roosevelt to Clovis West and showed he can be a true commodity and contributor by the start of his senior season, if not earlier. Walker had 7 points and 2 blocks in the team's win over Madera, and Walker showed he may be raw right now, but he has the pieces to work with and an apparent desire to play hard and impact the game. Walker is active on the glass, moves well off the ball to find the dunker spot, back-cuts off the baseline, and is a crafty scorer around the basket, using the up-and-under, reverse, and scoop lay-ups to evade bigger players around the cup. Walker is active on the glass, outlets quickly to get up the court, and uses his long strides to get ahead of the defense. Intriguing player to keep an eye on.
