I attended the 2026 PrepHoops Arizona Freshman Showcase at Inspire Courts in Gilbert, AZ on September 5. This was my first time watching most of these players, and I came away extremely intrigued by the class of 2030, as this class is loaded with talent. Here's part one of four highlighting the players who caught my eye.

He was everywhere on the court, putting his fingerprints on every part of the game, especially in the first game of the day. In the paint constantly fighting for boards at both ends, with many of the offensive ones leading to easy put-backs or tip-ins, really using his size to his advantage. He was also a playmaker and self-creator with the ball in his hands for extended stretches, showing off more of his post game at this event: dribbling his way inside, bodying an opponent up, and going to the turnaround midrange jumper. For a player his size, he impressed with his handle on fastbreaks and his ability to pass while moving and coming off the dribble, rather than only the stationary post pass. Active defensively, going for blocks in transition and hunting pick-pockets, sometimes turning those into fastbreak chances. And he broke the rim on a fastbreak dunk, by far the highlight of the showcase.

Has all the athletic and on-court traits, is capable of scoring at all three levels, and can defend several positions. Defensively, he was excellent across the 1 through 3, locking up a few different players and keeping them out of the paint until they had to dish it out. On the offensive side, smooth movement and a full arsenal: he can drive in and quickly convert to a post-up, drive straight through contact, or pull up off the dribble from midrange or three. Excels at finishing through contact and looks like he's seeking it out at times. Good pace of play, and a player who can fly all over the court.

Potentially the most athletic player at the Freshman Showcase, he already has the physical tools to excel: bouncy, great height for a guard, and good vertical leaping ability. As for his in-game traits, he's composed and never rushed, blowing by opponents with ease. He gets most of his baskets close to the rim on drives or fastbreak dunks, and once he gets to the midrange he'll wisely dump it off if he can't get a clean release. Flies in for boards and has good link-up play with teammates, finding the open guy when his own lane is blocked.

Extremely fluid movement for a freshman, playing the game at his own pace, making paint drives and step-back attempts look effortless. He often took the ball up the court, then immediately went to work on his defender with a mix of moves and tactics: stop-and-stutters driving for a layup, finishing those same layups through contact, using that footwork to get to the midrange for a turnaround middy, and pull-up threes at the top of the key. A pure scorer, most effective when you give him the ball and let him go iso.

Feels and plays like he's much larger than 6'3", and could easily play both the 2 and 3 spot. Excellent use of his frame in the midrange, separating from defenders on drive-ins and turnaround jumpers, extending away from opponents and keeping the shot up high where it can't be blocked. Handles it well in transition too, and can finish through contact if he goes coast-to-coast.

A high-energy guard with insane quickness and the ability to pop a shot off the dribble with ease. Excelled as a pull-up shooter, with an extremely quick and clean release even when he hadn't created much separation. He could do it from the midrange and from beyond the arc. Uses hesitation to freeze defenders before bursting to the basket. Not only a shot maker, but he can hurt defenses in transition and get to the rim off clean euro steps.
