Top Ball Handling Guards in Updated 2029 Rankings

Camps, showcases and tournaments during June and July provided plenty of opportunties for our staff to evaluate prospects from around the state. Here is an in-depth look at the top point guards and combo guards in the 2029 recruiting class.    Bacot helped lead Team Loaded 15U to an adidas 3SSB championship this summer and looks poised to take another step forward during his sophomore season. He is a strong, physical combo guard with good positional size, a high basketball IQ and excellent court vision. Bacot is a very good passer who can impact the game as both a scorer and facilitator, while his improving perimeter jumper continues to add another dimension to his offensive game.     Smith had a breakout summer and has begun to pick up multiple Division I offers from programs around the country. The sophomore is a dynamic point guard with above average quickness and athleticism who can score at all three levels and create his own offense off the dribble. He has an impressive feel for the game and plays with poise and confidence with the ball in his hands. Smith has established himself as one of the more intriguing point guard prospects in the 2029 class and should continue to see his recruitment grow during the 2026-27season.     The PVI point guard looks poised to take a major step forward this season for the WCAC power. Rivers possesses high level quickness and an impressive command of the basketball, allowing him to consistently get into the paint and put pressure on the defense. He is a reliable decision maker who can create for others and is also a capable perimeter shooter when left open. Rivers is emerging as one of the top point guard prospects in Virginia's 2029 class.     Winiarski was another key member of Team Loaded's adidas 3SSB championship run and continues to trend up in the 2029 class. He is one of the state's top perimeter shooters, combining deep range with impressive shot preparation and consistency from beyond the arc. Winiarski is also a reliable ball handler and decision maker with above average quickness and a high basketball IQ. He plays with toughness and has established himself as one of Virginia's top perimeter prospects in the class.     Evans is a skilled ball handling guard with good positional size and impressive playmaking ability. He is a very good passer who sees the floor well and is difficult for defenders to keep out of the paint. Evans is especially dangerous in the open floor, where he uses his speed to push the pace, and is also a capable perimeter shot maker. He has plenty of upside as a point guard prospect in the 2029 class.
