The War Extravaganza: Scorers, Shot Makers, and Pure Shooters

The War High School Extravaganza brought together some of DFW's most talented high school programs and prospects ready to compete, make statements, and set the tone for the upcoming season. From dynamic scorers and playmakers to versatile two-way contributors, several recruits separated themselves through their production, competitiveness, and overall impact. Here we talk about some of the prospects who made the strongest impressions at The War's High School Extravaganza.    One of the best natural scorers in the country, requiring minimal dribbles while operating effectively in both space and tight spaces, taking shots the moment, he saw an opening. Boyd displayed excellent footwork with picture-perfect pivots that created shot attempts underneath the basket and freed him from tight spaces when needed. A powerful finisher off two feet, hanging and absorbing contact with balance and excellent focus while gliding through traffic. Boyd always found a way to get open, even when defenses schemed specifically against him. Even off the dribble, MJ didn't waste time, kill the rhythm, or overdribble, instantly getting straight to the action and making a play. Boyd carried the scoring load each game with a never-quit attitude. One of, if not the most poised and cold-blooded killers the state has to offer.     [player_tooltip player_id='2252491' first='Ryan' last='Hampton'] drops 40 points in his debut performance with Rockwell heath, flashing dynamic three-level shot making using his length, elevation, and extension to consistently rise over defenders and convert difficult scoring opportunities from anywhere on the court. Hampton got a bucket in every way imaginable, attacking downhill, finishing around defenders at the rim, stopping and popping into smooth pull-ups, and knocking down perimeter jumpshots, while his explosive athleticism also produced electrifying above-the-rim dunks that instantly changed the momentum of a game.     Chris Hunt showed top-tier creativity around the basket, even amongst the trees, using smooth up-and-unders and reverses to capitalize against shot blockers. Once Hunt got defenders fearing his acrobatic finishing, he began to show off his bounce, taking flight in transition when allowed a straight-line path toward the rim, where he showed the determination to dunk on whoever stood in the way. Hunt also showcased a convincing set of moves with super-quick twitch, as defenders couldn't help but bite on his hesitations, stepbacks, and pull-back dribbles that constantly left them guessing.     His pro-style scoring approach made him a dangerous isolation scorer who was crafty off the dribble, utilizing a variety of turnarounds and stepbacks to create separation when he got to his spots. Displayed excellent elevation, release point, and shooting touch. His knack for stopping on a dime and pulling up over defenders allowed him to score at will, especially from the mid-range. Patient with a good feel for the game and smooth footwork in the mid-post. Anytime his team needed a bucket, he was able to get one without the need for a screen or drawn-up play, showing precise spacing and quick shot selection off the catch, allowing him to close out games off his feel and scoring presence alone.     Dynamic bucket getter off the bounce. A relentless downhill attacker who initiated contact to either create space, draw fouls, or force the defense to collapse, where his drive-and-kick skills were on full display. Scott's length and high-touch release made him a nightmare to defend on the drive, showing the ability to contort his body or float the ball over the defense when needed. Scott played with great energy and intensity on both ends, setting the tone with his physicality and motor.     As usual, [player_tooltip player_id='2556904' first='Ryland' last='Groom'] was a true shooting marksman from beyond the arc, consistently making the defenses pay from his ability to space and stretch the floor for knock down open catch-and-shoot three-point opportunities. With a quick, repeatable release and excellent readiness off the ball, Groom thrived on relocating to open windows and punishing late closeouts as a dangerous long range weapon.
